2009 Virginia Tech Football: North Carolina Game Thread

North Carolina Tar Heels at Virginia Tech Hokies, Oct 29, 2009 7:30 PM EDT

Virginia Tech Hokies (5-2, 3-1) vs. North Carolina Tar Heels (4-3, 0-3)

Time: 7:45 p.m. EDT
Date: Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009
Place: Lane Stadium at Worsham Field (66,233), Blacksburg, Va.
TV: ESPN (DirecTV 206)
Radio: XM 190/191 and Sirius 211/212
Spread: Virginia Tech -16.5
Weather: Partly Cloudy, 45 degrees

The Hokies hope a return home will cure what ails them against a North Carolina team that is winless in league play. A win would make the Hokies bowl eligible and keep their dreams of an ACC title somewhat alive. While the title hopes are on life support, the season is not. Hopefully the Hokies can take care of business.

Important Programming Note: I will be in beautiful Halifax County and without Internet until Monday morning. If I can find a place to put up the Stream of Consciousness after the game I will, but I'm not holding my breath. Carry on without me.

I don't mind the orange shirts

I know its Orange effect, but thursday night home games should be all maroon.

But thats trivial. Go Hokies

I just don't see us as an orange team

It would be nice to start winning this game…now

I have an idea.

Let’s never wear orange again.

What a shitty game.

That was offensive...

Losing to North Carolina…at home…on a Thursday night. With great field position on numerous drives in the first quarter. Is it really that hard to score points? Is it really that hard to call a pass in the Red Zone? Is this the best offense we can put out on the field? In other years we had the defense to get away with some wins, but not this year.

Good bye National Title, Good bye ACC title. Hello mediocrity. Thanks Mr. Stinespring!

Best case scenario

We get a chance to avenge 48-7 against LSU in the Chick-Fil-A bowl.

I don't know if Atlanta/Chick-Fil-A will want Virginia Tech again this year.

I know the Hokies are a big draw, but not sure Atlanta Sports Council would want VT starting and finishing their season in the Georgia Dome. I could very well see Clemson getting to the Peach Bowl this year. Either way, I think it will be Virginia Tech or Clemson in Atlanta come bowl season.

Cody Grimm has great instincts but....

You can really tell he lacks athleticism with his pass defense.

Wow

The Acc is a cluster. I am going to Wake Forest tomorrow to see the Canes play the Deacs. Hopefully they will put ME in charge of the timeouts.

You should be cheering for Wake to knock off Georgia Tech at this point.

I think they have a legit shot at tripping up Georgia Tech. Wake Forest already has experience scheming against the triple option (Navy) and you saw what a competent pocket passer can do to the Georgia Tech defense (Ponder in the Florida State-Georgia Tech game). Just a hunch.
