Virginia Tech 37, Tennessee 14: Postgame Stream of Consciousness

Woooooooo!

  • 10 wins for the sixth consecutive season.
  • A win over God's Conference for the first time since 2002.
  • A win over Tennessee, "Little Brother Syndrome" be damned.
  • First time with back-to-back wins in bowl games.
  • Tons of good feelings heading into 2010.
  • This is also a big win for the ACC over the SEC.

Star-divide

  • The Hokies did everything we said they needed to do to beat the Vols. They dominated both lines of scrimmage, stopped Hardesty and put pressure on Crompton.
  • Ryan Williams, Josh Oglesby and David Wilson all had good games, which means the offensive line was dominant tonight. We ran it right down Monte Kiffin's throat the whole game.
  • Tyrod was efficient, just like he has been for most of the year. Tennessee expected good things to happen for it when Tyrod was forced to throw. Instead, he was able to find open receivers and run for key first downs.
  • Other than the missed tackle that led to Hardesty's touchdown, the defensive tackles were beasts the whole night. Tennessee couldn't find any running room.
  • MLB Barquell Rivers did his part to stop the run as well.
  • CB Jayron Hosley is thiiiiiiis close to being a good cornerback. Not bad for a true freshman, but he still made some mistakes. Not nearly as sold on Cris Hill, though.
  • The drop by Tennessee WR Moore couldn't have been bigger. After that, it was all Hokies.
  • This was the fifth consecutive game that Tech didn't allow a second-half point. You can't give a bigger compliment to this defense.
  • More later. Til then: Wooooooooooooooooo!

We have to be thinknig National Championship

That has to be the goal going into the next season. The ACC can no longer be the prize. With all the offensive talent returning it has to be national championship or bust.

it all depends

on the offensive line. and we need some replacements to step up on the ol next year. we wont do anything in 2010 without a solid o line.

It would be even more impressive...

If Tennessee didn’t have Gomer Pyle as their head coach. I am one of the most ardent partisans for SEC football, and will normally pull for any SEC team in a bowl game, but, well, look at my signature to see what I think about Tennessee. Congratulations Hokies. You have my gratitude for defeating the Tennessee Volun-tears, as does anyone who defeats Tennessee in anything.

As for NC, in the interests of not being accused of being a complete troll, I won’t express my opinion of ACC football in general.

Just because I'm an occasional to frequent troll, doesn't mean I lack a heart or don't have a point. Rocky Top Talk blog ban: I did it for teh lulz.

To all Hokies...

Don’t adopt Bama fan’s sensibilities, as posted here by Anarchon and LittleSis.
It is in your best interest to pull for your ACC brothers in non-conference games, no matter how much how much you may think you hate them.
I will be pulling hard for Bama against Texas because they represent my conference, and what is good for the SEC is good for my school, too.
I hate Bama, but I’m not an idiot.
And, congrats to Virginia Tech on the win. Well deserved.

I'm just curious about one thing:

When will Tennessee hire a head coach? The current one is a petulant child whose lack of understanding of the game became apparent before he ever set foot on the sideline at Rocky Flop, and the former is a slime mold the size of a beached whale. I’m not an idiot, but Tennessee, in my opinion, belongs in the SEC about as much as Florida International, and at least FIU’s head coach isn’t a speaking, walking rectum, which is far more than can ever be said about Lame Kitten or his predecessor, Philip “Fat Bastard” Fulmer.

Congrats

Hokies schemed well and played well – nobody has gotten pressure like that on Crompton all year, nobody. Good luck to you guys next year.
