2009 Peach Bowl: Good vs. Evil

(The holidays mean it's time for two things in my house: Bowl games and Emmet Otter's Jug Band Christmas - the bootleg copy with Kermit's scenes included, you Disney fascists. Images are from here.)

As much as I think the bowl system is broken, it has given Hokie and Vol fans something to be excited about this month. It'll be great theater as the Hokietown Jubilee Jug Band goes head-to-head with the Riverbottom Nightmare Vols.

As a public service announcement, posting will be less regular the rest of the month, but you will see plenty of stuff on the Peach Bowl as we get closer to game time. I'll have a matchup to watch on both sides of the ball as well as the typical game preview stuff you're used to. Look for the game guide a few days before Christmas and then the rest after the holiday.

To be honest I'm kind of burned out and have a pretty big pile of stuff I need to get done at work and at home before Christmas rolls around. Don't worry, I'll still be around. I'll post stuff when news breaks and when I get inspired (read: drunk). I'm pumped for this bowl matchup but I need a week or so get things in order before I got full bore into hating on the Vols and looking at what the Hokies need to do to get that 10th win.

FYI

the ACC needs a win. Don’t eff this up.

This new learning amazes me, Sir Bedevere. Explain again how sheep's bladders may be employed to prevent earthquakes.

Don’t worry, we won’t pull a Georgia/Virginia Tech this year.

Agreed

The entire ACC is behind you! When this games over the only thing Tennessee should be volunteering is info for the TRIAGE nurses. Destroy them!

Am I the only Hokie fan...

that doesn’t like this match-up? I understand that we’ve been trying to play against the Vols for a few years (ie Bristol bowl) and what not but how does this match-up help our program? We’re the number 11 team in the BCS and we’re playing a team that doesn’t even in the top 30!! We don’t get the opportunity to get a signature bowl win with a bowl game like this. This Tennessee team was 3-4 after it’s first 7 games. This puts us in a lose-lose situation…If we win the game then it’s to be expected since we’re playing a weaker team but if we lose we get reamed by the media for being overrated.

You’re right, it is pretty much a Iose lose situation. I would’ve rather played West Virginia in the Gator Bowl since they are ranked and there’s still blood on the wall from our last meeting. But this game will still be fun and very enjoyable.

Don't like this game for different reasons

I think the team and conference still earns some validity with a win. Especially since it’s still a win over a pretty good SEC team. Being 0-4 against our last 4 SEC foes means we need to take what we can get.

I don’t like this matchup because this team reminds me a lot of a Nebraska team. Giving Monte a month to prepare for our “offense” does not bode well. I wouldn’t be surprised if they shut us down and the result was a 12-10 game. However, I feel that Tyrod’s progression should be the difference in the game and he should make enough plays to give us the win.

As for Bird, I would concentrate on my own ACC win if I were you. The BCS win is the most important win the conference needs. Especially after the UGA, USC catastrophic weekend.
