ACC Bloggers Pick Virginia Tech to Win Conference

The mainstream media had its fun earlier this week in Greensboro, tabbing the Hokies to win the conference and D-Train Dwyer to win player of the year. But what about the people whose opinion really counts: The bloggers? I polled bloggers representing the conference and every team but Duke (whose lone blog didn't reply to E-mails) to come up with our own preseason vote. Today, the proletariat's voice gets heard.

Here are your participants:

Results after the jump.

Star-divide

The ACC bloggers overwhelmingly selected Virginia Tech as its conference champion for 2009. The Hokies received 10 of the 18 votes cast and 13 first-place votes in the Coastal Division. In the Atlantic, Florida State was selected as the division winner, receiving 12 first-place votes.

The individual award voting was much closer. Georgia Tech running back Jonathan Dwyer was selected as the preseason offensive player of the year, receiving 10 votes. Virginia Tech defensive end Jason Worilds was picked as the preseason defensive player of the year, leading the way with four votes. There was a three-way tie for preseason rookie of the year with Florida State's Greg Reid, Clemson's Kyle Parker and Virginia Tech's Ryan Williams all receiving two votes.

I dunno about BC

finishing last… I think their defense will keep them in a lot of games.

The big question is whether or not VT can be the national title hope of the ACC, and I just don’t see that happening either. :-\

the bc dt's will take a major step back

as will the lb play.

teams will jam it down their throat, making the secondary support the run A LOT more and exposing them to get lit up from the air.

the secondary won’t come close to getting as many picks this year.

dominant DT’s are extremely hard to find and they had the best tandem in the ACC in over a decade.

VT’s schedule is too hard, they lose at least 2 games this year.

Rec'd

Their secondary is very average, but they look like worldbeaters because they are consistently put in amazingly favorable situations by their front 7. That ends this year.

I think the ACC will be Tough this year

the ACC will be tougher this year than normal (Not saying it isn’t a tough conference).

Personally I think it is difficult to pick a winner.

Clemson, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Miami and Virginia Tech will all be right there in the national race not just the ACC race.

I’m expecting No Vote to surprise a lot of people this year.
