Preseason Blog Poll Ballot Up for Review
I've been asked to participate in this year's BlogPoll, meaning all the readers of Gobbler Country have been asked to participate as well. Each week I'll post a preliminary ballot for you to berate. After that ballot is thoroughly thrashed in the comments by the readers of this site, I'll edit it based on your suggestions and submit the final ballot. The weekly BlogPoll gets posted on Wednesdays on CBSSports.com.
Here's my preseason Top 25 for you to flog.

| 1 | Florida | |
| 2 | Texas | |
| 3 | Southern Cal | |
| 4 | Oklahoma | |
| 5 | Alabama | |
| 6 | Ohio State | |
| 7 | LSU | |
| 8 | California | |
| 9 | Virginia Tech | |
| 10 | Oregon | |
| 11 | Mississippi | |
| 12 | Oklahoma State | |
| 13 | Georgia Tech | |
| 14 | Penn State | |
| 15 | Brigham Young | |
| 16 | Georgia | |
| 17 | Boise State | |
| 18 | TCU | |
| 19 | Utah | |
| 20 | Nebraska | |
| 21 | Iowa | |
| 22 | Florida State | |
| 23 | Oregon State | |
| 24 | Clemson | |
| 25 | Southern Miss | |
Explanations:
- I think Florida and Texas are the two best teams in the country and will meet in the BCSCG.
- It's a preseason ballot, so most explanations can end with "because I f-ing said so!"
- I'm high on the Pac 10 this year, especially Oregon.
- I'm low on the Big Ten this year, just like every other year.
- I will not consider any Big East team for inclusion in the Top 25.
- Southern Miss looked good toward the end of last year and I'm a big fan of Fedora from his Oklahoma State days.
- I really like BYU and think Max Hall is the country's second-best traditional QB behind Bradford.
- North Carolina fans said they were shocked (shocked!) that voters would put the Heels as high as they did in the coaches' poll. So I left them off my ballot.
Let me know what you think in the comments. I'll post the final ballot before it's due on Aug. 24.

I am not sure Ohio State deserves such high ranking, they lost Beany Wells, and some key defense players. They could not beat a weak(by majority opinion) big 12 D in Texas. OS has a very bad reccord in big bowl games, I feel like they are overhyped every year.
Completely disagree on Socal being ranked so high , seeing the 2 coordinators leave, the QB situation, I’d still give them a top10 rank but not in the top5.
Alabama is too high also , even though they return most defense personnel they lose QB and a star RB, their offense is unproven.
VT is a bit too high with unproven offense, and now that DE got hurt the unknowns are even more.
if everyones too high
then who the fuck should be in the top 5??? ole miss, ok state and penn state?

Err
Forget your pills this morning? Calm down… no reason to react that way. I agree with him that ’Bama and Ohio State are a bit high, though USC definitely deserves to be where they are at. I also believe that Georgia Tech should be a bit higher, but that is just a gut feeling.
Regardless, you certainly don’t look very respectable lashing out like that.
Eh, he means well. I consider it tough love from a good moderator :)
If stefko is going to discount his rankings, he should at least present examples and arguments for who should replace the teams he doesn’t think should be so high.
i think the top 5 is solid and will be the same top 5 most pollsters have. but you can take teams 6-15, shake them up and put them wherever you want on the ballot this year. those teams are all about the same. but i think it’s hard to justify having any of the teams that are 6-15 to be higher than 6.
usc and alabama have new qbs, but talent at the skill positions and solid, solid defenses. usc was 12-1 last year and alabama won its first 12 games. what team 6-15 can say theyre better than usc and alabama right now? i really dont think any of them can.
so while i dont think usc, alabama nor oklahoma are amazing teams, they get in the top 5 by default because no one else has the results from last year combined with the returning talent to crack a preseason top 5.

I meant that stefko should be the one to enlighten us with who he thinks his top 5 should be. Didn’t mean that for you. Annoying when someone shoots down something without presenting alternatives.
i agreed with what you were saying
and was just kind of running with it. trying to continue the conversation and what-not. its a very stream of consciousness kind of day.

Poll
Furrer,
I’m flogging you for even taking part in this preseason poll crap. You and I both know these things are a joke and polls should wait until 4-6 weeks into the season. The pre-season poll has more effect on the BCS than a lot of the other shit that people whine about. Boo urns, i say to you for promulgating this garbage.
MadJay
Thought it would be interesting to see how VT’s preseason rankings and final rankings have compared over the last several years. These are coaches’ poll rankings:
’02 Preseason ranking: 16
’02 Postseason ranking: 14
’03 Preseason ranking: 10
’03 Postseason ranking: NR (fuck you Aaron Rodgers)
’04 Preseason ranking: 32 (other votes)
’04 Postseason ranking: 10
’05 Preseason ranking: 7
’05 Postseason ranking: 7
’06 Preseason ranking: 16
’06 Postseason ranking: 18
’07 Preseason ranking: 9
’07 Postseason ranking: 9
’08 Preseason ranking: 15
’08 Postseason ranking: 14
I’m with you MadJay, preseason polls are BS, but even I was surprised by the similarities in our pre and postseason rankings.
i know they suck
but i have to submit a preseason poll to participate. dont worry, you guys will get plenty of chances throughout the year to boot undeserving teams from the top 10.

Solid Picks
Overall pretty solid picks. Because of John Blake’s recruiting ability at North Carolina, I personally think they’ll have a top 15 year, and of course I think you over-rated VT, but that aside this looks pretty good.
Sadly, UT is probably my pick to win it all, but you have to start out with UF number 1. Also, I would have LSU over any Big 11 (Ten) team, but as I hate LSU I’m not overly upset by this.
Oops, I wrote all that without using the word fuck. That’s unfuckingacceptable.
The Big East
Can suck it. Except WVU. I think they will dominate the Big East, and will be a-ok this season.
I’m probably going to write a post about this, but Alabama is overrated going into the season. They are good, I will be shocked if a repeat of Clemson happens this year… last year’s Tigers team was running off of pleas for ‘a sense of urgency’ from the Bowden boy. I see you guys coming in, playing a tough game, and running away with it at the end.
