Tennessee vs. Virginia Tech: The Bristol Bowl (That Never Happened)
[Ed. Note: Promoted from FanPosts.]
One of the better ideas that, for whatever reason, never blossomed into fruition was the idea to have a Tennessee vs. Virginia Tech game at the Bristol Motor Speedway. I have heard widely different explanations for why this never happened (e.g., UT was scared, Virginia Tech was scared...actually those are about the only two reasons I have heard).
I wish it would have happened, though. And let me just toss this out there. Why couldn't this happen now? Who was pushing the idea from the beginning? Could the idea ever regain momentum?
Thoughts?

The guy pushing the idea was the problem
Bruton Smith is the chairman of BMS and he was the one who wanted UT and VT to play there. He rubbed officials from both schools the wrong way while trying to get the deal done. My guess is it will never happen as long as he’s still at BMS.

VT’s athletic director was ready to sign the deal, but for whatever reason, UT’s was not. End of story, i dont see this happening.
That is true.
UT is dodging. Where I’m from Gate City, it would be great for us.

It is depressing too because we are only 128 miles apart, give or take a few feet.
