6 People Who Aren't Will Furrer Named to VT Hall of Fame

Once again, the selection committee for Virginia Tech's Sports Hall of Fame showed its bias against gritty, left-handed quarterbacks as it picked six former Hokie athletes and coaches who aren't Will Furrer for its 2009 class.

The eighth consecutive Furrer-less class (since Furrer became eligible) includes: distance runner Gene Crane, tennis player Aaron Marchetti, basketball coach Chuck Noe, golfer Brian Sharp, basketball player Lisa Witherspoon Hansen and quarterback Maurice DeShazo. DeShazo took over as the Hokies' quarterback the year after Furrer graduated.

Furrer is third on the Hokies' all-time list for yards and touchdowns, the career leader in completions and one of two quarterbacks to lead the Hokies in passing yards four consecutive years since 1952. However, he is still not a member of Tech's sports Hall of Fame. Selection committee, you're on notice.

Tech's sports HOF now includes 147 members, none of whom are Will Furrer.
