Adventures in Gambling 2009: College Football Week 4

Every week I'll give you my picks for five ACC games and five matchups around the country. Lines are from The Spread. Gambling isn't encouraged or discouraged, but if you're using my picks as your lone resource, well, you're gonna get what you deserve.

ACC Games
(My picks listed first)

Maryland +2.5 vs. Rutgers
NC State +0.0 vs. Pittsburgh
Clemson -2.5 vs. TCU
Georgia Tech -2.5 vs. North Carolina
Boston College +2 vs. Wake Forest

National Games
(My picks listed first)

Cincinnati -16.5 vs. Fresno State
Southern Miss +13.5 at Kansas
Texas Tech +1.5 at Houston
Oregon State +1.5 vs. Arizona
Louisville +14 at Utah

Star-divide

Yes, I know Maryland is terrible. I just think it's less terrible than Rutgers. Home teams will rule in Week 4 across the ACC, with one notable exception that I'm not going to put money on out of principle.

Cincinnati gets the nod under the category of "ride the horse 'til it bucks you." Fresno has to go across country after tough losses against Wisconsin and Boise State. I think Southern Miss and Louisville will cover on the road. Texas Tech usually handles in-state opponents who aren't in the Big 12 pretty easily and I don't think Houston will be an exception. I also like Oregon State as a home dog against Arizona. Arizona is making a really long road trip for the second consecutive game. Iowa City is only 170 miles farther from Tucson than Corvallis.

Last Week

ACC: 2-3
Correct: Kansas, North Carolina
Wrong: Georgia Tech, BYU, Boston College

Natl: 2-2-1
Correct: Cincinnati, Auburn,
Wrong: Baylor, Bowling Green
Push: California

Year to Date

ACC: 8-7
Natl: 7-7-1
Total: 15-14-1
