2009 Virginia Tech Football: Alabama Quick Thoughts
I'm drunk. I'm exhausted. I haven't seen a box score. I just got back to Winfield's. My everything hurts. Hereeeeeee we go.
- I feel like I've been to that game a lot of times.
- Our offensive line is still terrible at pass blocking.
- Alabama's conditioning won it the game. Our guys were gassed in the fourth quarter. Alabama's were energized.
- Great game by Alabama's offensive line. McElroy had forever to throw all night.
- Tyrod Taylor played a smart game and didn't do anything to cost us the game. I thought he played well.
- Ryan Williams is going to be amazing.
- I thought Mark Ingram was a good running back coming into tonight's game. I was wrong. He's a great running back.
- We are the same team we were last season.
- Looking at the out-of-town scoreboard, I think we still have a chance to win the ACC Coastal.
- It was a hard-fought, well-played, cleanly-played game by both teams.
- Our conference is absolutely horrible. Like, really, really horrible. The Southland might be a better conference. I know the CAA is.
- Alabama fans were great with a couple of notable outliers. The Crimson Tide has a great fan base. I always reserve the right to have my mind changed about a fan base (like with LSU) and it certainly was this weekened. Crimson Tide fans were great. Not always the most football-savvy people, but they were very nice and very gracious before, during and after the game.
- I got made by the Clubhouse Tailgate. Got an official shirt with a nickname and everything. It was an honor and completely unexpected. Love being around those guys.
- There was never a point where Alabama was on its heels while on defense. We are still a very easy team to prepare for and Alabama was prepared for everything we threw at them.
- Uggggggggggggggggh. So frustrating. Again, I feel like I've been to that game a lot of times and my feeling after that game has gone from being sad to angry to now just frustrated.
- Time for bed. See you Tuesday.
- Drunken edit at 2:10 a.m. EDT: To Brandon Deaderick: Damn, son. Just. Damn. You are a man among men and you will always have my respect. Wow. I could never imagine anyone playing after going though what you went through.

I thought it was a really good game...
granted I say that having rooted for the winning team but it was. Foster’s D swarmed in most inconvenient ways causing troubles outside the tackles and pressuring MacElroy to the point that I have no idea what kind of qb he will become. I do not mean to denigrate with the following, because VT showed quality throughout: with the night the ACC had Virginia Tech should shine from here on out.
If it were up to me, I'd blitz on offense too.
“Alabama’s conditioning won it the game. Our guys were gassed in the fourth quarter. Alabama’s were energized.”
I think that has more to due with the fact that our D spent some forty minutes against two bruising tailbacks. That right there, the time of possession, is where I think we really lost the game.
“Tyrod Taylor played a smart game and didn’t do anything to cost us the game. I thought he played well.”
That’s nice and all, but we’re never going to beat the Alabamas or LSUs or USCs if the offense is out there not to screw up instead of looking to make a big play. Tyrod certainly didn’t cost us that game, but he didn’t much help us win. Bad night passing, didn’t have many rushing yards, albeit he was under pressure all night. He did look a more…mature quarterback and wasn’t willing to throw the ball into coverage often but man, we are a competent offense away from winning a National Championship. Play calling was as usual bad, but you can’t pin everything on the coordinator. If Tyrod is ever going to be a great quarterback he’s going to have to make plays, regardless of the team we’re up against. We had all the breaks going our way into the fourth quarter then the defense just tired out.
Love Ryan Williams. He had a bad moment on the punt return that may just have been nerves but he looks like a superstar.
absolutely no shame...
that was a wonderfully violent and clean game: Hard hitting, physical and speed to spare. This Va. Tech team; even with your injuries (and I hope Virgil didn’t get winged too badly), is the class of the ACC. You took advantage of every miscue, and made us work four full quarters for it. That is the sign of great coaching. And Williams is going to be special.
Hats off.
You always forget that Nebraska is a state until they pop up in the news about some guy who has 25 kids buried in his backyard

Your students can be harsh lol
One guy at an epic VT tailgate said he was surprised we were wearing shirt and shoes.
Another student saw my red pants and polo and thought I looked like “a complete faggot.” When I insinuated that I had heard something similar from Clemson he informed the police at the door that I was holding “pot! He’s got pot! Hes got a bag of weed!” Four of his friends surrounded me, informing me of their intention to “kick my ass” when a georgia dome security gaurd grabbed me by the collar and jerked me into the stadium.
any virginia tech fan over the age of 19, however, was more than nice and hospitable and it was a pleasure sharing a great game with yall.
(Your Team Here) sucks
wondering which tailgate you were at
i was at the one in the old peterson rv lot in the southeast corner with the silver airstream. really hope that wasnt our guys who treated you that way.

as a guy that has thrown an empty bottle at Georgia
I didn’t take it to heart. Everyone’s got em’
Hokie fans are first class, I was more amused than anything at the students comments.

you guys did well
But the conditioning and difference in speed was evident, at least you didnt shit the bed like we did last year against them.
Hey great game.
That was truly an awesome game. I’ve always had a great respect for VT, and I have even better respect for them now. Good luck with the rest of the season, hopefully you will finish 11-1.
36-0
That was a great game to watch last night. I was really impressed with the bama fans. They were really cool and very gracious. Chicks in houndstooth fedora’s are amazingly HOT.
The game was hard fought, and the better team won. Hate to say it, but bama was last night.
With that said, I think we can make it to the ACC championship game. It’ll be a long season. I think we are better then we were last year (losing to bama respectfully vs losing to ecu…). That was the best D will see all year. We’ll get better.
Props to bama they deserved it.
Let’s get ready for Marshall.
great game...
Man thats probably the kindest post game comments BAMA will get from anybody all year. And your right Brandon Deaderick should have everyones respect. I know he will have mine from now on. You guys are a class act and good luck with the rest of the season!!
