Report: 4-Star QB Recruit Marquise Williams Commits to Virginia Tech
Looks like 4 star QB Marquise Williams has de-committed from UNC and committed to VTech according to sources, should be public soon.
It appears our boy Beer Control scooped everyone, but now even Rivals is reporting that Marquise Williams has ditched North Carolina for Virginia Tech. Williams, who is ranked as the No. 10 dual-threat quarterback in the country, originally committed to North Carolina back in July.
The senior from Mallard Creek High School in Charlotte, NC, is also ranked by Rivals as the No. 16 recruit in North Carolina. If the report is true, he would be the second quarterback to commit to Virginia Tech in the last two days. Lafonte Thorougood, a QB from Ocean Lakes High School in Virginia Beach, committed to the Hokies Saturday.
Williams' about-face would give the Hokies 16 commitments for their 2011 recruiting class. With a minimal number of scholarships at the Hokies disposal this year, you would figure they are close to filling out their class. That is, of course, assuming all 16 sign with them in February.
For more on Williams, read our own ChicagoMaroon's write up on him from last week.

So Stoked
very happy to hear this, Lafonte and Marquise will push each other to be the best possible and it will be so graet to have another Tyrod-esque Qb because we have done so well with that style of QB, WELCOME to the Hokie Nation Marquise!!!
Not quite
Neither one of these players could carry Tyrod’s pads. That’s wishful thinking of the highest degree Gobbler.
(sigh)
Y’know, it’s nice to be stacked a running back. It’s nice to be stacked at QB. But those positions have never been problems for us, not really. Our biggest single problem over the last 5+ years has been our offensive line. How close are we to getting a “top 10” pulling guard? How close are we to getting a “top 10” pass-blocking tackle? How close are we to getting a center who would be worthy to carry JAKE GROVE’s pads?
We keep on triple- and quadruple-stocking the sexy skill player positions and NEVER actually fix our undermanned line positions. When are we actually going to do something about that? Huh? Yeah, that’s what I thought.
Oh, sure, we signed another Michael Vick wannabe. And, who knows, maybe he will be the next MV (in a good way), the next Tyrod Taylor, the next Bryan Randall. BUT THAT DOES NOT ADDRESS OUR PROBLEMS! That does not shore up our weaknesses! That does not fix what’s wrong!

Gotcha RHG, but
Well next year QB is definitely a problem spot for us RHG, but you’re preaching to the choir about our O-Line woes. Every year we hear about how improved they’re going to be, and they start out the season like sitting ducks. While knocking on wood I am going to say that with 4 starters returning and a QUALITY player in Michael Via possibly taking over for Beau Warren (MAKE IT HAPPEN STAFF! WE SAW HOW AMAZING HE WAS LAST YEAR IN RELIEF OF WARREN!), so if we aren’t better on the offensive line, there’s no hope for human kind. BUT you’re right, all of the linemen you are talking about went the way of the Heels (at least the ones on our board) or to the Vols (Mack Crowder, a guy that would’ve made Jake Grove carry his pads when he was all done at Blacksburg). Also, neither quarterback we just landed are a Vick, Taylor, or Randall. Best case scenario: We have an Al Clark in the bunch, but I think Williams is more of a Maurice Deshazo. Two bold predictions, but two that I am more than confident enough to make.
Geez…well I was excited for this commit, but after reading CM’s write up I’m not so sure. No offence but I hope your wrong lol
Yeah, I understand
None taken, I hope I’m horribly wrong to the point of constant humiliation.

Marquise Williams
The posting on Rivals.com is by Mike Farrell. His blog is titled “whispers”.Thats a title that really instills confidence in its readers. I am from SW Virginia and currently work and live in the Charlotte area. I work for the Mecklenburg county school district and have known Marquise and his family for seven years. I can tell you that I am 99% sure that if Marquise had decommitted from UNC and committed to Tech I as well as many others at the school would be aware of it. I wish I could report to the faithful that this report was true, but I almost guarantee it is not. I am Rivals.com Insider and I haver found this particular blog and blogger to be very unreliable. Let’s keep our fingers crossed, but I can assure you that he will remain a UNC recruit unless they get really whacked by The NCAA.
Williams update.
I found out Tuesday that after Mallard Creek lost in the State playoff semi-finals Marquise made the statement " I just don’t know right now how things will play out. I guess you could say I am a little soft on my commitment to UNC right now". He is an emotional kid, so stay tuned. Not exactly a decommitment, but certainly something to keep with.
Have family at Mallard Creek and have followed the team for all four years the school has been in existence. Has not officially decommitted from CH. Wants to make sure he knows whats going on at CH but keep something in mind that I haven’t seen mentioned yet.
He plans to enroll in college in January so he can’t wait much longer before making final decision.
I truly believe..
Williams is enrolling at UNC in January of 2011. He has said as much, his coach is saying that, and his dad.
The Truth
I have talked with several players at Tech, and they have all said that Marquise Is enrolling at VT in January. UNC is losing recruits left and right these past few days. Looks like heavy sanctions and maybe the possibility of Butch being kicked out.
