2011 Orange Bowl: Weather Delays Virginia Tech's Trek to Miami

Stay connected for news and updates

According to the Roanoke Times' Randy King, hazardous weather conditions in the Commonwealth will keep the Hokies from reaching Miami until Tuesday afternoon:

Tech's charter flight from Roanoke to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport was scheduled to arrive (Tuesday) morning at 11:15. However, the Hokies will not arrive in south Florida until approximately 4 p.m., since their charter flight has been backed up to a 1:30 p.m. departure since some players from the Hampton Roads area could not return to Blacksburg on Monday because of hazardous road conditions.

King reports the change in plans won't effect the Hokies' bowl preparations since they aren't scheduled to begin practice in Miami until Wednesday.

According to the Norfolk Virginian-Pilot, over 14 inches of snow fell at Norfolk International Airport, causing obviously dangerous road conditions. The V-P reported 31 wrecks on Hampton Roads roads Monday due to slick conditions. While temperatures in the area are expected to warm up this weekend, it looks like road conditions won't be much better Tuesday. Drive safe, Hokies.
