Report: Florida State QB Christian Ponder Won't Start Against Virginia Tech
From the Tallahassee Democrat (H/T Tomahawk Nation):
Florida State quarterback Christian Ponder is not expected to start in tonight's ACC championship game against Virginia Tech in Charlottesville, N.C.
Although Ponder has been medically cleared to play, sources have told the Tallahassee Democrat that FSU Coach Jimbo Fisher is going to start sophomore EJ Manuel instead.
Ponder hurt his elbow against Boston College and has been battling the injury since. He did not play against Clemson on Nov. 13, in a game Manuel led the Seminoles to a last-second 16-13 win. In that game, Manuel was 15-for-24 (63.5 percent) for 210 yards (8.8 ypa) with no touchdowns and an interceptions.
The Noles also ran some option in that game and Manuel carried the ball 15 times for 71 yards (4.7 ypc) and a touchdown. Overall, the Noles had 97 rushing yards on 30 attempts (3.2 ypc) against Clemson.
Surely, we prepared for both quarterbacks, right? Right?!

As good as Ponder is passing, I think I would rather face him than a potential option based attack with Manuel. I wonder if the game plan changes for the game based on this in terms of Antone Exum vs. Jeron Gouveia-Winslow
I think it means more JGW
or Fuller at whip like we saw against GT.

I was told about this before the UF game but dismissed it offhand.
Glad FSU is considering Ponder’s future. That fascia has to re-attach
This team will improve in '10... on its 16-16 conference record over the last 4 years.... after losing 20 games in the last 4 years... after having the 7th worst major-conference defense... after not even winning its own division in the ACC in the last 4.

Watch for the speed option play
that was really the only consistently successful play they had against us. The QB Trap is another one they’ll hit you with over and over.

We can only hope so. However, we did face GT earlier this season, and had some success against a very tough spread-option offense (though it was very ugly). Now we will have two QBs playing against each other, from the Tidewater region (Manuel is from Va Beach). Am I the only one that finds it bizarre that Florida powerhouses are now recruiting from the Commonwealth?
