Trio of Bracketologists Have Hokies Making the NCAA Tournament
Three of the four brackets worth watching include Virginia Tech this week.
First and foremost, SB Nation's own Chris Dobbertean of Blogging the Bracket has Virginia Tech as a No. 9 seed in the East, traveling to Providence to meet Missouri in the first round. Dobber doesn't have the Hokies listed in his "Last Four In" after they were his very last team in the field last week.
The most interesting first-round scenario comes from Patrick Stevens' D1SCOUSE blog. He puts Tech as a No. 10 seed against in-state rival Richmond in the Midwest Region in Buffalo.
The Hokies make their debut in the bracket of the original bracket nerd, Joe Lunardi, one week after coming in at No. 66 on his "S-curve". Lundardi has Tech as a No. 11 seed facing Butler in New Orleans in the South Region.
The only bracket the Hokies don't appear on this week is the one projected by Jerry Palm of CollegeRPI.com. Boo that man!
While my own bracketology skills have deteriorated over the years, I think the Hokies would be in the field if the season ended today. However, there's still a lot of work to be done between now and Selection Sunday. With Tech's rough remaining schedule it's probably 50-50 that it will go dancing this year.

Jerry Palm's an Idiot
He had us as an 11 seed just last week and then shuts us out after winning both of our games this week. Here’s his solid reasoning behind his choice on cbssports.com.
Also falling out was Virginia Tech. The Hokies did not lose this week, but when a team is as close to the bottom of the bracket as they are, and has played a non-conference schedule that isn’t just bad, it’s historically bad, you can assume it will get left out.
And as if that wasn’t bad enough, Virginia Tech also has a weak conference schedule, relatively speaking. The Hokies only play each of the six ACC teams in today’s bracket one time. They have home-and-homes with the non-contenders, and they already lost two games to those teams.
There just isn’t much room for error for the Hokies. They won’t be able to crawl onto the bottom of the bracket so they have to be a no-brainer for the committee. That’s why this week’s games are crucial for them: home against Wake Forest and at Duke. It’s their only regular-season shot at each team.
Not the worst reasoning in the world, but not after having us in the tournament just last week. He must have watched the first half of the Hoos game.
So I guess
Palm is guessing what the bracket will look like at the end and not “if the season ended yesterday” like the other three guys. Kinda weird.

If we the games we should, starting with Wake Forest tomorrow, we’ll make the tournament.
