2009-10 Virginia Tech Basketball: 2010 ACC Tournament Bracket, Notes and Predictions

2010_acc_bracket_medium

Virginia Tech will receive a first-round bye in the 2010 ACC Tournament thanks to its win Saturday at Georgia Tech. The Hokies will face either Wake Forest or Miami in the quarterfinals at approximately 2 p.m. EST on Friday, March 12 in Greensboro, NC. The game will be televised on Raycom Sports in the ACC footprint (listings) and on ESPN2 in the rest of the country.

Star-divide

This is the fourth time in six seasons the Hokies have finished in the Top 4 in the ACC and had a first-round bye in the tournament since joining the ACC prior to the 2004-2005 season. Tech is 3-5 all-time in the ACC tournament, 2-2 in the quarterfinal round and 2-1 in the quarterfinals after a first-round bye.

Should Miami beat Wake Forest, it would be the third consecutive year the Hokies have played the Hurricanes in their first ACC tournament game. Tech played Miami in the quarterfinals of the 2008 ACC Tournament after receiving a first-round bye and played it again in the first round of last year's tournament. The Hokies won both meetings.

The bye will give the Hokies some much-needed rests. They'll go five calendar days between their win in Atlanta and their first game in Greensboro, their longest layoff since early January when they went seven calendar days between games against Seton Hall and North Carolina.

My pIcks:

First Round
Boston College
Wake Forest
Georgia Tech
NC State

Quarterfinals
Duke
Wake Forest
Maryland
Florida State

Semifinals
Duke
Florida State

Champion
Duke

Questions for the Masses:

- Who ya got? Wake or Miami?
- Does Tech need another W to make the NCAA field?
- Will the layoff be long enough to get Dorenzo Hudson back on the court?
- How far will the Hokies go in the tournament?
- Who's going to win this thing?
