Gobbler Country's Preliminary Week 4 BlogPoll Ballot

Here's my first crack at the Top 25. Please make suggestions of who should move up, down, in or out. The final draft is due Wednesday morning, so you have plenty of time to get in your grievances.

Games Watched: Cincinnati at NC State, Cal at Nevada, Georgia Tech at North Carolina (50%), East Carolina at Virginia Tech, Air Force at Oklahoma, Baylor at TCU (50%), Clemson at Auburn, Iowa at Arizona, Wake Forest at Stanford (50%).

Star-divide

There really isn't a whole lot of movement from last week. The big movers were Arizona and Nebraska. The Huskers finally convinced me they're just fine without Ndamukong Suh and the Wildcats posted an impressive win over an Iowa team that I was completely sold on prior to its trip to the desert. I'm still not completely sold on Michigan, Texas or Oklahoma. Please let me know your thoughts in the comments.

love

that you USC so low. they are barely top 25, but some are really over ranking them.

dropped iowa further than i would have. had that game been in iowa city, they win by 2 td’s.

a late night, west coast mad house game.

it affected them.

Michigan

I don’t understand how a Michigan team that struggled to beat a mediocre FCS team should be anywhere near the top 25.

They're 3-0

with two wins over BCS teams. I don’t think there are 25 other teams that can make the same claim.

…and both BCS schools they beat are 0.500. ND was a squeaker. I’m willing to give them credit for that as it’s a rivalry game, but ND only win was against Purdue, who really isn’t that stellar of an opponent. UConn’s only win is against an FCS team and lost to Temple. That doesn’t scream stellar wins to me.

sorry, both BCS schools they beat are sub 0.500.

OK

Suggest teams that should be included instead of Michigan.

Damn you for making me think more.

For me, I guess Nevada may be a stronger contender – put them in at 25. The win against Cal may be a good one, depending on how the rest of the season plays out.

Maybe Air Force – but I know their schedule strength isn’t that great and it’s arguable if OU just overlooked them.

I know ranking teams this early on is not an easy thing to do and there are pluses and minuses to each being ranked (especially towards the bottom end of the poll). Most of my Michigan friends are even saying that UM shouldn’t be ranked, FWIW – but I think they (not so) secretly want Rich Rod fired.

The Cal W

was impressive, but their other two wins are against Eastern Washington and Colorado State, who might be the worst team in FBS. Michigan has a road win and I put a lot of stake in the ability to win away from home. It’s one of the reasons Boise State is ahead of Ohio State on my ballot.

Nevada goes to BYU

this week if. If it wins that, then I’ll have no choice but to put them in the Top 25.

Fair enough. Like I said, it’s not an easy decision to make and I’m not sure how my ballot would do if it were posted for all to see.
