Virginia Tech RB Ryan Williams Will Not Play Against NC State

Stay connected for news and updates

For the second consecutive week, Hokies running back Ryan Williams will sit out, according to the team's injury report and Inside Hokies Sports' Jimmy Robertson.

Williams injured his right hamstring in the first half against East Carolina and missed last week's game against Boston College. Running backs Darren Evans and David Wilson will again have to fill the void left by Williams' absence.

Williams returned to practice Monday, but favored his right leg during conditioning drills according to the Washington Post's Mark Giannotto.

I think it's a good to hold Williams out against NC State if he's not 100 percent. This week's game will not make or break the Hokies' chances at an ACC title and NC State has had a stingy run defense in its first four games. If the Hokies are not able to get their ground game going, they will need a standout performance from quarterback Tyrod Taylor to come away with a victory against the Wolfpack.

Wilson and Evans combined for 97 yards on 30 carries (3.2 ypc) and a touchdown against Boston College. Wilson has been the Hokies' most effective running back this season, running for 181 yards on 32 carries (5.7 ypc) and two touchdowns this season.
