Boise State 33, Virginia Tech 30: Postgame Stream of Conciousness

Can't do it tonight. Sorry, guys. Will try tomorrow. Remember, guys. It's much more important to be a Hokie after a loss than after a win.

Congrats

Feel absolutely sick and speechless. Gonna drink whiskey until I fall asleep.

Congrats on the huge thread on tonight’s game. Awesome site and it’s finally starting to get recognized.

disgusting

first quarter performance.

we gave them 17 points.

and it cost us. a punt block, a key penalty on a punt, a bobbled snap. you expect a team coached by a guy who’s been in the business for some 24 years to be better. and a senior quarterback under center.

major props to Tyrod though. he was great tonight.

SEC

Yes, Virginia Tech game me 344 gray hairs on my head. Yes chasing Tyrod is like chasing the wind, BUT AT THE END OF THE DAY, YOU ALL MUST RESPECT THE BOISE BLUE! SEC fans, SHUT YOUR MOUTH!!! respect the blue because we just beat one of THE BEST teams in the nation.

to change the spread from +1.5 to -1.5 should put that guy on suicide alert.

by VTinACC on Sep 7, 2010 12:21 AM EDT reply actions

And who's your team?

What a great game, and what class fans VT has. If even one other Tech player played at the level of Tyrod Taylor, we would have lost that game. They fought back from a rough start, they battled, and two top teams put on a hell of a show for the nation. Seriously, though…BSU is ranked #3! I’ll spot you the “Strength of a WAC schedule” argument, I won’t try to say BSU deserves a National Championship spot (and not just because it’s friggin week one) but to say that there’s any shame in losing to BSU in one of these big time games just means whoever you root for is going to wind up going down like an overconfident Oregon team. Go Broncos and Go Tech…have a great rest of the season guys, and thanks for giving BSU this opportunity.

Great Game

I’m a bit drunk. I’ve spent all weekend unsure of where I’d be working two weeks from now and whether the Broncos were big school good, or just good.

Va Tech is a great school. Academically, I have to admit, it’s what BSU wishes it could be. Obviously, being in the ACC, it’s what I wish BSU could be athetlically. And pretty much every Va Tech fan was great, not a jagoff. Pretty sure the ones who were merely claimed to be Hokie fans but were a-holes were just Vandal fans.

Anyway, I thought we’d lose before the game, and about 15 times after the first quarter. Your team never gave up. Fought the whole game. Being in a decent conference, you probably don’t understand what that means. But it was great. I’d rather lose to Va Tech than beat New Mexico State. (But dammit we better beat them too now!)

Now, go give the ACC hell!

(And screw that oski4u jagoff)

boise state buff your an idiot

for one va tech isn’t in the sec they are in the acc (get an education), obviously y’all aren’t used to playing big boy competition (if all were, y’all would know what conference y’all were playing against each week).. 2. we gave y’all 17 in the first quarter..yes, i do understand at the end of the day va tech lost but honestly should you be bragging about winning by 3 when you know damn well that y’all shouldn’t have won that game…3…boise state is a joke when it comes to national title talk… y’all play in the wac…fresno state, Idaho, Utah state, Idaho, john tyler community college, itt tech, and devry university… if y’all actually played in a bcs conference y’all would never see the day of light…so keep on walking your little baby nuts around the ncaa like you a hot shot and join a big boy conference like the sec, acc, big ten because that’s the only way you will ever get any respect from the bcs conferences….

by Wes Taylor on Sep 7, 2010 12:41 AM EDT reply actions

No, he knows VT is ACC....

He’s literally talking to SEC fans, assuming they troll their dominance on Gobbler Country the same way they do on OBNUG. (Boise State’s SB*Nation page). Hooray for you if Alabama fans don’t pop up every couple months to talk smack, we’re not so lucky.

Also-

We should have won the game because WE didn’t spot VT 17 points. Yeah, you had a great two and a half quarters, but that punt didn’t block it’s self.

And-
We’d love to join this mythic “Big Boy” football….I’ll just hold my breath for the invite.

Anyway, again, class fans VT…except this guy, but great game!

by Cougarflounder on Sep 7, 2010 9:37 AM EDT up reply actions

The game....

While the first Boise touchdown wasn’t…..you need control of the ball in the endzone….it doesn’t really do us any good to whine about the bad calls…..even though they were bad and really cost us the game, in a way…..If we had played better in the first half, and if we had stopped them in the last 1.5 minutes…we would have won. We lost this game. The team was good…but they weren’t an Alabama or LSU caliber. If we had played them like we played TENN in the bowl then we’d all be celebrating right now. Yes its annoying as hell when ESPN seems to always choose the cinderella of the year to be any team without maroon and orange, but we dont have a pedigree..and we never will. So ESPN will never go gaga over us-heck, just be glad they stopped calling us “VAH-Tech”. I’m still proud of the Hokies and especially of Tyrod and Ryan. I think the OVERWHELMING lesson is…FRANK! DAMMIT! Stop scheduling our 1st game with POWERHOUSES!!!!! Let’s go back to embarrasing JMU or the Spiders….C’MON!!!! I dont care how much money we got out of it…IT AIN’T WORTH IT!!!!!!!!!!!

by recesq on Sep 7, 2010 12:42 AM EDT reply actions

yes I know....

But they are a damn good team…I was referring more to Alabama and LSU.

Really wanted VT to win this game.

I want to know what Frank Beamer was thinking having Tyrod throw the ball 50 yards down field with 1:40 left to go on a 3rd and 7 or whatever it was. RIDICULOUS. VT running back was starting to grind out yards. You put the ball in his hands and take your chances. Gave a TON of extra time to Boise. Boise may have won still but that call right there really hurt VT. Perhaps Beamer doesn’t understand the new clock rules in college football…

yeah

the decision to launch it downfield was tyrod’s, but we really should have just pounded RMFW the last two plays of that drive.

by VT89 on Sep 7, 2010 12:50 AM EDT up reply actions

Well, then I still blame the coach

on that play giving the QB the freedom to make that call. If he wanted to check it to run to a different side or try a safer short pass then OK, but a low percentage shot down the side line? Yikes.

by onebarrelrum on Sep 7, 2010 12:53 AM EDT up reply actions

That's true

but running game had been spotty. Problem wasn’t passing, but passing for big plays instead of Joe Montana-style 5-, 8- and 12-yard plays down the field.

VT is an amazing squad and I have a feeling that you’ll go on to kill the ACC. That was a crazy game, but I have so much respect for VT and their players, especially Tyrod Taylor, that I will definitely root for you guys in all future games.

Respect for both sides in this clash. Two very evenly matched teams.

Until

Your coach stops whining like a little girl demanding home and homes with big programs he and his program get no respect. Boise would get murdered if they had to play a real schedule against quality opponents. You have 2 games the entire year that are worth being on TV. VT now still has to go line up against a bunch of quality opponents. If Boise gets into the championship game I’m done with college football.

Well,

I certainly can understand the drunk bit, check out my sig. And BSU may very well best FSU but that isn’t the point. Especially last year as FSU couldn’t stop a Pee Wee team offense. But the point is, could they beat, FSU, VaTech, GaTech, UNC, Miami, all in the same year?

by onebarrelrum on Sep 7, 2010 1:31 AM EDT up reply actions

Football is a game of attrition.

12 rounds fought by going up against difficult opponents. Granted VaTech and FSU have easy games sprinkled in but BSU has two difficult games then 10 rounds against absolute butter cream filled patsies. Football like a boxing match wears on a team as the season goes on. BSU gets to treat a couple games like their super bowl every year and then coast on the rest.

by onebarrelrum on Sep 7, 2010 1:34 AM EDT up reply actions

Yes

FSU is a team that is in an AQ conference. If you can win the ACC, you get lots of money. If BSU loses one game, it doesn’t. BCS bowls are fantastic money. Most other bowls lose money for the teams (though not their conferences or those frakking bowl committees).

If it is so appalling that BSU can put together a team that goes undefeated for three goddamned regular seasons in a row and make the Fiesta Bowl for a third time, then push your team to push the ACC to push the BCS for a playoff. It’s not up to Boise State. We play by your rules. If you want the game to change, change the rules. Don’t bitch because you can’t take advantage (though the ACC surely takes advantage).

To be fair to Boise,

they would have taken a PAC or Big 12 invite in a heartbeat (and would do so today if one were offered).

For fun, look up Boise State’s athletic department budget, then look up the TV revenue for those two conferences. It’d be an absolute no-brainer.

by David Hooper on Sep 7, 2010 8:32 AM EDT up reply actions

I'm not so sure they would take it.

They could have put themselves out there trying to get into better conferences but I don’t remember them making a big stink about not being offered. If they did good for them. BSU coaches and athletic apartment are smart. They want to hold onto a crap schedule. Even if they get a playoff system they still get to keep their crap regular season schedule. They would be able to coast through the year playing garbage teams and get into the playoffs having played 10 or so scrimmages.

by onebarrelrum on Sep 7, 2010 9:14 AM EDT up reply actions

They'd take it.

They’ve already made it clear they no longer want to play the Idahos of the WAC anymore. At the time they joined the MWC, it appeared the conference would include them, TCU, Utah, BYU, and Air Force – not at all a bad slate of teams that are usually either in the top 25 or close to it. They’ve played PAC-10 teams regularly in their OOC recently (especially both Oregon schools – neither of whom are slouches).

Good Game to Hokies

You guys played really well. I was extremely impressed with TT as I really have never watched anything more than highlights of him. He burned us several times with his legs which is something Masoli, Kapernick and Dalton haven’t done to this defense. I really thought my Broncos had no chance to come back in the 4th. Plenty of miscues on both sides and a few questionable calls on both sides as well. It was obviously the first game of the year with the mental errors that occurred. Both very good top-10 worthy teams and we’ll be cheering for the Hokies the rest of the year…good luck to you all!

by scoleman on Sep 7, 2010 11:20 AM EDT reply actions

Come on, Hokies faithful...

I was cheering hard for your boys last night (especially since they were playing where my Skins are gonna lay the smackdown on the Cowgirls, Sunday night), and I certainly do not like the possibility that a team like Boise State – with its relative ease of schedule – could realistically steal a national title game spot from a more deserving, battle-hardened team from one of the tough BCS conferences.

However, the Broncos were simply the better team last night. That 1st quarter performance, especially, was indicative of a team that has the talent and the hunger to win itself a championship. Though I believe that such a team is not designed to withstand a rigorous SEC, ACC, Big 12, or Big 10-like full season schedule, give them credit where it is due. They’re no joke, and the scoreboard proved it. The fact is, Boise State earned that win…no ifs, ands, or buts about it.

I grew up 2 hours from Blacksburg; I have attended quite my fair share of games at Lane Stadium, and have many family ties to VPI…and I know that you Tech fans are much more graceful than many of the comments on display here. Don’t relgate yourselves to acting like Texas Longhorns fans. Just accept the difficult loss (as we Bama fans endured after the Sugar Bowl defeat by Utah) and cheer the team on to winning the ACC (where the Hokies will likely meet my wife’s beloved Seminoles…my, what a conflict for myself).

Roll Tide, and Go Hokies!
