Report: Virginia Tech RB Ryan Williams Will Enter NFL Draft
I have confirmed with a source Ryan Williams will enter NFL Draft. Virginia Tech has scheduled a teleconference for 3 p.m. today.
UPDATE: Mark Giannotto reports the press conference, which is in 20 minutes, will be about Darren Evans' future with the Hokies.
And boom goes the dynamite.
Kudos to Josh for breaking this story. No word on if Darren Evans' intentions will also be announced at the same teleconference, but my guess is they won't. At last report, Evans is still weighing his options prior to the Jan. 15 early entry deadline.
Williams said after the Orange Bowl the NFL Draft advisory committee told him he would probably go late in the first round or in the second round. While Williams could probably improve his draft stock by coming back, there are a lot of other factors to consider, including how deep next year's running back class will be and the status of the NFL's CBA.
Williams is currently the 4th-highest ranked running back on Mocking the Draft's big board and one of the players ahead of him, LaMichael James, has already announced he will return to Oregon next season.

Can't blame him
It was fun watching him while he was here. I’ll be rooting for him wherever he ends up in the pros.
Oh well...
I just don’t see Williams as a 1st rounder after the year that he had. But then again, the NFL doesn’t call my house asking my opinion on future NFL talent.
I suppose the NFL advisory committee watched the VT offensive line play in the Orange Bowl and graded Williams on a curve.

Any Updates?
After Darren decided to leave it’d be interesting to see if Ryan thought there would be anything to salvage by coming back.
Let's hope Wilson is ready
Losing both Evans & Williams is a big hit.

mistaken reporting?
the rumors that Williams was going to announce his departure seem to have been mistakenly confusing him with Evans. I thought they would announce together, or at least very close to it. The longer Williams doesn’t announce, the more I start to hope he will come back after all…
Josh
stands by his report. He’s actually talked to Williams, so I don’t think he was mistaken.
From what I’ve seen, the coaches are trying to convince Williams to stay because now that Evans is going to the NFL, Williams will see a lot more carries. Will that actually persuade him? Who knows. My guess is he’ll still go pro, but I wouldn’t be surprised either way.
