Virginia Tech has been installed as an early 26-point favorite for this week's home game against Arkansas State according to our friends at OddsShark. The Hokies are 1-1 against the spread this year after failing to cover -17 at East Carolina last week.
The Hokies have now been the favorite in 12 consecutive home games dating back to the 2009 game against Miami. In the last 11 home games, Tech is 8-3 against the spread. Arkansas State comes into Saturday's game 2-0 against the Spread. The Red Wolves beat +19 in a 33-15 loss at Illinois and covered -18 last week against an atrocious Memphis team.
Arkansas State has beaten the spread in its last three road games against BCS opponents. In addition to its Week 1 game against Illinois, it beat +10 at Indiana and +31 against Auburn in 2010.
The Red Wolves are one of the better teams in the Sun Belt, but I think the Hokies can cover -26. Arkansas State doesn't run the Air Raid, but they do run a no-huddle, pass-heavy offense out of the spread formation, which the Hokies just saw (and shut down) last week. If Tech can get its pass game going against Arkansas State it will be able to pile on the points Saturday.
