Kendall Fuller Picks Virginia Tech, Commits To Hokies

Kendall Fuller, one of the nation's top rated cornerbacks out of Our Lady of Good Counsel HS in Olney, Maryland has committed to Virginia Tech over Clemson at the Gridiron Kings event in Buena Vista, Florida. Fuller of course is the brother of former/current Hokies Vincent, Kyle and Corey Fuller in case you hadn't heard or figured it out by the name.

Fuller, the subject of a heating recruiting battle, picked the Hokies over at least 22 other offers including many power conference schools. According to this David Teel tweet, Fuller is only the fourth 5-star in the recruiting site era to commit to the Hokies.

For more analysis of the commitment, continue reading after the jump.

Rivals lists him as the #1 ranked cornerback in the nation and the #3 overall player, a ranking that Rivals.com's recruiting guru Mike Farrell is confident will improve to #1 overall. Farrell that he was the best player at every event he's been to on the recruiting circuit, including the Rivals 5-Star Challenge. ESPN ranks him as the #20 overall player and #5 at his position. Here is his Rivals profile and here is his ESPN Recruiting profile. Scout and 247 Sports both list him as the #2 overall cornerback in the nation.

As for his decision, Kendall announced via his Twitter account Friday morning that he would announce at the event. Kendall originally planned on making his commitment to a school in December at the Army All-American game, but after visits to Virginia Tech and Clemson on consecutive weekends, Fuller decided he was comfortable enough to go ahead and pick the Hokies. ESPN leaked the story over an hour before Kendall actually announced live on ESPN3.

Fuller's commitment helps to bolster a glaring weakness going forward for the Hokies: cornerback depth. After retooling positions in the secondary in the spring and the decisions of Jayron Hosley to forego his senior season and James Farrow to transfer closer to home, the Hokies found themselves with only five scholarship cornerbacks on their roster. The Hokies already have at least one other projected cornerback in the 2013 recruiting class, but the commitment of Fuller should ensure future success at one of Tech's trademark positions.

Here are highlight videos of Kendall's sophomore and junior seasons. Enjoy!
