If I Could Tonight...

Ed Wolfstein-USA TODAY Sports

If I could tonight, I would be dressing up in the maroon uniform, yelling at the players to get some.

If I could tonight, I would be grabbing Sam Rogers' facemask and hollering at him, "YOU AND ME, WE ARE GONNA PAVE THE WAY AND HIT SOMEBODY TONIGHT!" and then slapping Trey Edmunds on the backside and yelling, "TREY, JUST FOLLOW SAM AND ME!"

If I could tonight, I would be on the sideline wearing an angry glare that would make Nick Saban blush and make Kirk  Herbstreit swoon.

If I could tonight, I would be in the locker room, pumping up the players. They are hurting. They are angry that the Anti-Logan Thomas faction of the fan base has gotten louder. They have already defended him this week. Tonight, they will have to keep him upright, the receivers will have to catch every single ball or make it impossible for the Hurricanes' defensive backs to make a play on it.

If I could tonight, I would tell Scot Loeffler, "JUST POUND THE ROCK, BABY!"

If I could tonight, I would tell all the defensive linemen to go after Stephen Morris and make him piss in his pants at the mere sight of them lining up across him.

If I could tonight, I would tell all the defensive backs to be in lockdown mode all-night long.

If I could tonight, I would tell Frank Beamer to ignore what the pundits and critics are saying, and just to coach the game.

But I cannot do all of those tonight.

The only thing I can do tonight is tune in to watch the Virginia Tech Hokies take on Miami Hurricanes. I am not worried about the Coastal Division race. I am not going to worry about which version of the offense will show up, the one that went through a three-game stretch where they committed zero turnovers and drove the ball, or the one that could not finish drives and turned the ball over in the last two games.

I am going to tune in tonight because I love the Hokies and I am a sucker for the underdog.
