It's football time again! Well, at least momentarily, and then nothing more for three full months. But for several hours Saturday, Blacksburg will be the way it should be, with players on the field and butts in the seats to watch the annual Maroon-White Spring Game (which will be the Orange-White game this year). For more information about how the Hokies will handle this game, and all of the rules, keep reading below.
Virginia Tech Hokies (7-6, 4-4)

This year the Spring Game will feature several rule changes that you may want to familiarize yourself with so that you're not confused from the moment you walk into Lane Stadium:
"Punts and Kickoffs: Everything is live
Field Goals: Everything is live - three step
TV Timeout after each punt (1 minute)
Two minutes between quarters
40 second clock
No trick plays
Short yardage (3 yards or less and inside 8-yard line - all defenses)
QB: Thomas and Leal yellow shirts
White team spotted 13 points"
Those rules, and more information about the game, can be found here.
Rosters for the game can also be found here.
History Lesson: The Hokies, who are coming off of their worst season in two decades, will be looking to rebound in 2013 with the help of improved performance by their quarterback, many returning starters from a top-25 defense a year ago and new coaching hires that represent the biggest change in that department since 2006, when Frank Beamer hired four new assistants. They did win their bowl game a year ago in a come-from-behind late thriller against Rutgers to prevent them from finishing below .500 for the first time since 1992. That victory, along with arguably the best recruiting class in team history, may give them the momentum going forward to reclaim their spot as the top team in the ACC Coastal Division and perhaps all of the ACC.
According to Frank Beamer's official site, Beamerball.com, the following players will miss the game:
(knees), Riley Beiro
(shoulder), JC Coleman (leg), Antone Exum
(knee), Tony Gregory
(ribs), Greg Jones (shoulder), Brenden Motley (knee), Scott Rolin
(knee), Josh Trimble
(TBD), David Wang
(leg), Tyrel Wilson
(foot), and Hunter Windmuller
However, since that was posted Thursday, there has been an update on the official rosters released for the Spring Game. That list looks like this:
"Nick Acree - OG 6-5 316 r-Jr. King William, Va. Fork Union
Riley Beiro 2 FB 5-9 229 r-Jr. McLean, Va. McLean
Antone Exum 3 CB 6-1 224 r-Sr. Glen Allen, Va. Deep Run
Tony Gregory 3 TB 6-0 183 r-Sr. Virginia Beach, Va. First Colonial
Greg Jones - FS 6-2 201 r-Fr. Lorton, Va. Lake Braddock
Brenden Motley - QB 6-3 219 r-Fr. Christiansburg, Va. Christiansburg
ScottRolin - FL 5-9 186 r-So. Ashburn, Va. Briar Woods
David Wang 2 OG 6-2 291 r-Jr. Ashburn, Va. Stone Bridge
Chase Williams 2 LB 6-2 230 r-Jr. Leesburg, Va. Loudoun County
Tyrel Wilson 3 DE 6-1 225 r-Sr. Hampton, Va. Hampton
Hunter Windmuller - P 6-3 177 r-Fr. Oakton, Va. Flint Hill School"
Obviously, that means there have been some changes, as were reflected on Twitter:
Although, I have been unable to find an explanation of why Josh Trimble has been upgraded and is listed on the White Team active roster.
