Corey Marshall Back With Virginia Tech Football Team

Bob Donnan-US PRESSWIRE

Virginia Tech junior defensive tackle/end is now back and practicing with the football team today after taking a 22-day personal absence. As we originally reported via a source close to the program, Marshall left the team for a weekend midway through fall camp and returned for a day to speak with Frank Beamer, at which point they agreed that Marshall needed some time to sort out things of a personal nature.

Marshall was slated to be an integral piece of the defense this year because of his versatility to play either defensive end or tackle, where he had been practicing leading up to the incident that caused him to leave the team. Corey started four games a year ago and one in 2011, and has played in every game since arriving on campus as a true freshman in 2011. He saw action on 440 plays a year ago and over 240 in 2011. In 2012 Marshall tallied 26 tackles, 3 tackles for a loss, 12 quarterback hurries, 1.5 sacks, a pass breakup and a pass defensed. In 2011, Marshall totaled 13 tackles, 3 for a loss, and added 3 sacks and 3 quarterback hurries.

Marshall's return is a good omen for a program that lost ten scholarship players in the pre-season to transfer, being dismissed from school, injury or players who simply left the team to focus on academics.

While the details of the incident in question regarding Corey Marshall and the Virginia Tech football program are still unpublishable, we are glad to hear that the staff feel confident in him moving forward and wish him nothing but the best of luck. No decision has been made public so far on whether or not Marshall will be allowed to play this weekend against East Carolina.
