There is a website called "WhatIfSports" - maybe you've heard of it - which allows you to simulate sporting events to see who would win (here is the LINK). It's setup with 2013 college football rosters, so it isn't ideal for simulating the upcoming season, but I thought why not simulate Virginia Tech at Ohio State just to see how bad the 8-5 Hokies would have lost on the road to the 12-2 Buckeyes. Here's what the simulation came up with:
Simulated Results Q1 Q2 Q3 Q4 OT Total
2013 Va Tech Hokies 0 17 0 7 0 24
2013 Ohio St Buckeyes 0 10 7 7 7 31
To say I was surprised that the Hokies could've taken the Buckeyes into OT at their place would be an understatement! Now, I only ran the simulation once; if you run it multiple times, you may find that Ohio State wins 90% of the time. Still, it is encouraging to know that last year's team had a shot - and I expect this year's team to be better. What do you guys think?
