Tech Basketball: Hokies Make Philip Cofer's Final Four

Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

Skilled forward and Tennessee de-commit Philip Cofer is now considering Virginia Tech as his college choice.

The spring dominoes just keep on tumbling as Buzz Williams continues to log miles on the recruiting trail.

One of the latest Hokie recruiting targets is 6'8" power forward Philip Cofer. The 205-pound Georgia product originally committed to Tennessee but was granted a release from his letter of intent after Vols head coach Cuonzo Martin bolted for the California Bears top job.

That move put Cofer back on the market and he currently is down to four schools; Tennessee, Georgia Tech, Florida State and Virginia Tech. He plans to visit all four schools.

Despite the coaching switch Tennessee could still be a likely destination for Cofer who's father Mike played football for the Volunteers before an NFL career.

New Tennessee coach Donnie Tyndall brought his entire staff along for an in-home visit recently that seemed to comfort the young forward.

As a senior at Whitewater High School in Fayetteville, GA Cofer posted 19.3 PPG, 12.8 RPG and 3 blocks. He has a nice touch for a front court player that led to him shooting 58% from the floor. Cofer shows good athleticism and clearly plays a position of great need for the Hokies.

247Sports puts Cofer as the 174th prospect in the 2014 class and the 9th best player in Georgia. He comes in at No. 120 in the Rivals 150. Clearly, he'd be a strong pickup for a Tech recruiting class currently ranked 18th in the country according to ESPN.

Cofer is scheduled to visit Florida State this weekend and apparently has his trip to Blacksburg lined up as well.
