Virginia Tech was one of four schools to offer a scholarship this week to 6'8" class of 2016 forward Matthew Moyer.
Matthew Moyer received 5 new offers yesterday: Kansas State, Arizona State, Wake Forest, Grand Canyon and the new coaching staff at VT!

Moyer is having a big summer, improving from a three star recruit to a four star on 247Sports and and coming in at number 90 in the latest Rivals100 ranking. He's garnering lots of attention from programs all across the country with more than 20 official scholarship offers and a few high profile unofficial visits including a recent trip to Ohio State.

Wisconsin and Butler are among the frontrunners at this point, but things change constantly in recruiting especially with so much time remaining in the process.
The 210-pound forward hails from Columbus, Ohio where he plays for Lincoln High School and VCC Ohio Warriors in AAU hoops.
Moyer has grown from a tall guard/wing player as a high school freshman to a taller, athletic kid who with some added bulk could be capable of playing power forward. He moves well and has a very good handle on the ball for someone his size and shows some good passing skills in transition. He even runs point in some of the above video.
It's too early to say if the Hokies will be a major player in this recruitment, but Tech has plenty to sell as Moyer would definitely have a crack at significant early playing time in one of the premiere conferences in college basketball.
Here he is with one of his AAU teammates Seth Towns on an unofficial visit to Blacksburg last fall.
Deng Adel and Ben Emelogu Pick Schools
In a move that was expected, wing Deng Adel verbally committed to Louisville Monday.

As we profiled recently, Adel was considering Tech to the point where he scheduled a visit to Blacksburg. Still, the recruiting ability of Buzz Williams wasn't enough to overcome the draw of playing for Louisville and Rick Pitino.
We also reported Ben Emelogu's decision to transfer from Virginia Tech. It didn't take long for him to come to the decision to head back to Texas and enroll at SMU.
6-5 Ben Emelogu on SMU: "When you have 2 chances to play for Larry Brown, I don't think it's very smart to pass on it again."

As Ben aluded to in that quote, SMU was among the schools recruiting him out of high school so it makes a lot of sense. It's always frustrating for Tech fans to see our guys head elsewhere (and thrive) but still, we wish the best of luck to Ben. I have a feeling he'll be a star in the Lone Star State.
