"Blackout" for VT - BSU Game
Although the announcement of the new black jerseys is coming so close to the game, it looks like the Student Government Association is pushing for wearing black in the stands for a "blackout". It is kind of buried towards the bottom of this article:

Hopefully the word will get out to everybody to make it effective. University Bookstore is selling SGA black Ut Prosim t-shirts.
UNC's Austin suspended indefinitely
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=5520574
Not sure if this has been mentioned anywhere, but if it hasn't, then here it is. Marvin Austin has been suspended indefinitely by Butch Davis. Now, I know we don't play UNC until 11/13, but this is something to keep our eyes on. Austin is a very strong member of the UNC defensive line and this could have implications against GT's triple option on 09/18.
Hope the Hokies have a great season from an NIU Huskie fan
Fight on Hokies! All the support that NIU received after the shooting incident in DeKalb last year will never be forgotten. Hope you beat the blue turf out of Boise State on Labor Day nite! A Bronco loss will be a boost to the Huskies chances for a big bowl game. NIU has Iowa State, Illinois and Minnesota on the schedule. All 3 BCS games are winnable and most of our toughest conference games are at home (Temple, Toledo). An 11 or 12 win season would put NIU in the top 25.
A Few Things About Virginia Tech's Aug. 21 Scrimmage
[Ed. Note: Bumped from FanPosts.]
So I am not going to lie and say I am very critical about how the team looks. These are my observations from the average fan. For starters, the main focus of today seemed to be offense and more specifically, red zone offense. Tyrod Taylor played well today. His passes were on for the most part and in the right places for his receivers. He had a nice TD pass to Dyrell Roberts in the endzone that was in a position where only Dyrell could catch it towards the sideline. Some say that is good, some say bad, but from the looks of it, he placed it there. He threw one INT but it was a sick play by Bruce Taylor. Bruce was behind the ball and was able to reach both hands out and snag it without any bobble.
Just a little fun about Sept 6, VT, Boise, and the number 6
What does the number six have to do with Boise State and Virginia Tech? Maybe nothing; maybe a lot if you are superstitious. So here is some random number 6's of note that have to do with VT or Boise just for fun. Also a little this day in history for the 6th.

Virginia Tech Aug. 14 Open Scrimmage Observations
[Ed. Note: Bumped from FanPosts. You can also catch Casey in his natural habitat at Winging It In Motown, the SBN blog for fans of those dastardly Detroit Red Wings.]
Well, I normally write about hockey but I've spent my whole life watching Hokie football so I'll take a crack with this post:
Evans/Williams
Sitting there watching a shotgun set with Tyrod Taylor in between Darren Evans and Ryan Williams is something that I have a feeling a lot of defenders will be doing this year. First of all, that is freaking terrifying I would imagine. Second, they showed a few wrinkles in the scrimmage that I fully expect to be implemented this year. With both of the RBs able to receive passes well out of the backfield, one of them was sent out in motion a few times which I have the feeling will give defenses fits next season. Another thing on the two backs: any notion that outsiders to the program have about them having chemistry/ego issues over who will get snaps should be thrown out the window. I noticed several times that they were always talking it up on the sidelines and encouraging one another. In fact, on one big run that Evans had, the first person to be there cheering Evans on was Williams.
Thomas/Clayton
The gap between Logan Thomas and Juju Clayton is pretty wide. Thomas was accurate with the exception of two or three passes that got caught up with too much air underneath and sailed on him. He had good pace on his throws and he had a good pocket presence of when to get rid of the ball. Juju was a lot more inconsistent with his throws. There were probably three or four passes that were too far behind the receivers and pushed them out of stride, which allowed the defenders to close the gap very quickly. It was more than just the throwing motions too as Thomas looked to read the progression of receivers better and make better decisions with the ball in terms of throwing into coverage.
Virginia Tech Football Recruiting Guide for the class of 2011 (Part 2)
[Ed. Note: Bumped from FanPosts]
Welcome to the Part 2 of my series Virginia Tech Football Recruiting Guide for the class of 2011. I am sorry that I have been so long getting the second part out, but some personal stuff came up and it sidetracked me pretty badly. Compounded with the terrible recruiting luck we've had, I just didn't feel motivated to do it. Trust me, the third part should be out much sooner than the second one came. Of course, that could all be expedited by some good commitments! But let's jump right into it, shall we?
Tailgating for Boise State
The biggest game of the year is less than a month away and I just read some terrible news for fans about tailgating for the Boise State game. Did everyone see that the parking lot for the game opens up at 4 PM on game day! I was planning on starting to tailgate for the biggest game of the year at 8 AM. Does anyone have any suggestions on how/where I can tailgate close to the stadium that will be open?
Most Frequently Overrated/Underrated ACC Teams
This week's Bourbon Shots included a link to an article from the GT blog called Margin of Hype vs. Margin of Excellence (From The Rumble Seat) that examined which teams tend to get overrated and underrated by the media following ACC Media Days. A good idea, but in the spirit of ACC academic rivalry I thought I'd post my own analysis, which unlike the GT blog is based in "theory" and "mathematical correctness" and other useful things that come along with a degree from the finest "Tech" in the ACC!
Glad To Be Part of a Classy Program
[Ed. Note: Bumped from FanPosts.]
For the past few weeks I've been trolling the Boise State SB Nation blog as its part of my Hokie duty to spy on what they're saying/thinking on the inside. The funniest thing I see is our Virginia Tech fans going over them to wish them luck and give them a fair (okay I call it fair, but its most likely still slightly biased) opinion on the upcoming game. The ensuing comments are the hilarious part as they treat it like a Trojan Horse that will attack from the inside if they let it in because they're so used to regular college football fans slander them before each of their games.
