More Like the Blech Bowl, Ammirite?!

+

Next year the Charlotte Bowl will be sponsored by an unfortunately named department store chain that my grandmother thinks is the greatest place ever. Seriously, she has their credit card and there's a 60 percent chance my Christmas present from here will come from there. Which sucks because we don't have them in my part of the country so I can't return it. This is why I always ask for cash for Christmas. Look, I'm getting old. I don't need to be surprised or experience the magic of Christmas. I just need the cash so I can make it to the bowl game. Don't worry, no, please stop crying, I still love you. No, it's a lovely sweater and I'll cherish it forever. Look, I'm putting it on. H/T: BC Interruption

Report: Miami Hires Temple's Al Golden

2

As we said in the update to last night's Trestman development, it now looks like Miami's man is former UVa assistant and current Temple head coach Al Golden. The SBN mothership will keep you up-to-date on the goings on in Coral Gables. Judging by fan reaction last night to the rumor that Trestman was going to be hired, I'm not surprised by this. Golden's a good hire. Trestman's a good coach, but he may have been a disaster at Miami.

Miami Making Run at 2011 Grey Cup

Miami's coaching search appears to be focused on Temple's Al Golden, UConn's Randy Edsall and Marc Trestman, a former Miami assistant who is the head coach for the Montreal Alouettes, your two-time defending Grey Cup champions. Manny Navarro tweets that Trestman may already have the job while AllCanes hears he has the support of Miami's "old guard." Quite the development, eh? UPDATE: Well, so much for that. Golden is a good hire for Miami if true.

"Foster's lunch-pail approach would play well in the Iron City. Ditto his record of building ornery, lock-down defenses. [...] Foster is familiar with Pitt from Virginia Tech's time in the Big East -- the teams clashed annually from 1993-2003 and are scheduled for a home-and-home in 2012 and '13."

David Teel from the Newport News Daily Press says Bud Foster is a good fit for the Pittsburgh job. Whether or not we have to break out the alert system again remains to be seen.

Ben Boggs to transfer

+

Virginia Tech Men's Basketball sophomore shooting guard Ben Boggs will transfer at the end of the semester in search of more playing time. The Hokies were looking to clear room for another scholarship player to finish their 2011 recruiting class, and I had tabbed Boggs to be the one to go. While it is no surprise that Boggs is the odd man out, the fact that he is transferring mid-season was not expected.
