Hokies Experimenting With Hokie Stone Helmets

According to an Andy Bitter tweet earlier today, Frank Beamer's website has confirmed that "this is the beginning design stages for a "Hokie Stone" helmet". It is unclear what game or promotion the Hokies would wear this for, and reaction has been decidedly mixed.

Alston Smith Moved From Defensive Tackle To Offensive Guard

Alston Smith, the redshirt-freshman son of former Virginia Tech great and NFL Hall-of-Famer Bruce Smith, is moving from defensive tackle to offensive guard to provide depth at the position which should allow them to redshirt current freshman guard Parker Osterloh and perhaps even freshman tackle Wyatt Teller, another offensive lineman who made the transfer over from defensive tackle during fall camp. While it is not clear how much Smith will play, having another scholarship body on the line is a must after the losses the Hokies have suffered since the beginning of camp.

Hokies To Wear Grey Jerseys Against Alabama

The Hokies will apparently be wearing these monstrosities tomorrow night against Alabama. Generally the reaction so far has been mixed, ranging from indifference to calling it an eyesore. Thoughts?

Joel Caleb Announces He Will Be Suspended Against Alabama For Breaking A Team Rule

Redshirt-freshman wide receiver and recently tailback Joel Caleb, the Hokies top recruit in 2012, has announced that he violated a team rule and will not play against Alabama. The rumor that has been circling for about a week, and went unanswered last night by the coaching staff, now appears to have a conclusion. Since he was low on the depth chart to begin the fall, perhaps this is not a huge development, but as Tech has relatively few answers at wide receiver, Caleb was one or two injuries away from being in the mix. Let's hope it doesn't come to that.

Hokies To Get All Maroon Pants Uniform In 2013

According to former GC writer Clark Ruhland, the Hokies will be getting maroon pants, a constant criticism of the fan base for several years now since the Hokies stopped wearing the 2008 version of their Nike uniform in 2010. UPDATE: Clark announced via Twitter that these uniforms were a previous incarnation of the uniforms and that they displayed the outdated TV logo. So it looks like no maroon pants. :( DOUBLE UPDATE: Zach Mariner of the Collegiate Times reports that Virginia Tech Equipment Manager Lester Karlin says that they're "kicking the idea around" of maroon pants in 2013. He also says that if they do go with them, they'll resemble Nike artwork. So maybe maroon pants back on!?
