This day in the life sort of feature on Frank Beamer has been circulating around the internet today to much acclaim. It outlines his struggles early on with the program, his triumphs and his resilience in life and how he has managed to avoid the national fanfare that Paterno and Bowden received despite his career record and running a clean program. There's also a pretty cool part about how he belies his competitive nature. It's a really great read if you've got the chance.

There were a few freshmen who I didn't know who to choose between, Nick Dew is still on the team and EA Teambuilder has a filter that doesn't allow Gayle, Wang, or Van DYke, so those names had to be spelled wrong intentionally. Interesting piece from ESPN today on the struggles facing James Johnson at Virginia Tech. Though it also seems to take a narrow view. Obviously VPI will have a hard time stacking up to UNC and Duke. But why not draw comparisons to Miami, Wake or BC of late? Andy Katz evens jumps the gun on Virginia -- seemingly sold on their improvement, with just one year of reference.

Virginia Tech released a statement that they have filled their final men's basketball vacancy; Director of Men's Basketball Operations, with the hiring of Eastern Michigan's Andy Moore. Moore has spent 12 years as a college assistant (EMU, BGSU, Michigan and California University of Pennsylvania) and 4 years as either Director of Basketball Operations or in Game Operations. Per the press release, Virginia Tech head men’s basketball coach James Johnson said, "I’m very excited to have Andy Moore join our staff. He is an individual that has a wide range of skills and experience in college basketball. He has worked as an assistant coach at all levels, including time as an assistant coach in the Big Ten and also has worked in all areas of operations. He is a great addition to our staff." The Virginia Tech Hokies scored their second commitment of the 2014 class today in Hampton Crabber RB Marshawn Williams. As you'll see in the highlight video I linked, Williams is not the most fleet of foot, but he is hard to bring down a la Darren Evans. Williams was said to have never considered anyone else and that playing for the Hokies was a dream.
