Get this one, the Yellow Jackets will be wearing Honeycomb inspired helmets against the Hokies. They are pretty minimalist, but dare I say pretty cool. Check it out.
A few weeks ago I was asked to do a Q&A with the Russell Athletic Bowl's Jimmy Clarity. This is that Q&A. Take a look for yourself as we discuss Logan Thomas, the 2011 season, the hardest games on this year's schedule and the Hokies best/worse case scenario for this season. College football expert Phil Steele projected Virginia Tech in the Russell Athletic Bowl, let's hope he's wrong. No offense guys, but we want to be playing in a BCS bowl year in and year out.
This day in the life sort of feature on Frank Beamer has been circulating around the internet today to much acclaim. It outlines his struggles early on with the program, his triumphs and his resilience in life and how he has managed to avoid the national fanfare that Paterno and Bowden received despite his career record and running a clean program. There's also a pretty cool part about how he belies his competitive nature. It's a really great read if you've got the chance.
Here's my interview with Syracuse's SB Nation Blog, Troy Nunes Is An Absolute Magician. We talk Virginia Tech, Syracuse and their entry into the ACC. We will also have them answer some questions about Syracuse over the weekend. Stay tuned!
Just click the title of the FanShot and it should take you directly to the player if you have an ESPN3 account and are signed in. If not, got to http://espn.go.com/watchespn/index/_/source/espn3/ and select Gridiron Kings from the Featured Events panel.
SB Nation's Bud Elliott interviews Kendall Fuller about his decision between Virginia Tech and Clemson which will be made Sunday at noon at the Gridiron Kings recruiting event at Disney's ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.
The Virginia Tech Hokies scored their second commitment of the 2014 class today in Hampton Crabber RB Marshawn Williams. As you'll see in the highlight video I linked, Williams is not the most fleet of foot, but he is hard to bring down a la Darren Evans. Williams was said to have never considered anyone else and that playing for the Hokies was a dream.
Miami's Category 6 blog site recently reached out to blogs affiliated with teams on their schedule to provide them with an outlook for the 2012 version of their teams. Here is my interview for Category 6, discussing Tech's strengths, weaknesses, potential breakthrough players, a season prediction and a VT-Miami prediction. Enjoy.
Suspended Virginia Tech kicker Cody Journell has come to an agreement with the Commonwealth Attorney to plead guilty to a lesser charge than the felony breaking and entering he has been charged with. It appears he will plead guilty to a trespassing misdemeanor instead. The terms appear to involve no jail time or fine, but will require 100 hours of community service. Journell tweeted Friday night, "First good news I’ve heard in 6 months…I’m so determined to make a mike vick comeback, man I love #VT." His status with the football team is still up in the air, but as Andy Bitter said of the deal in his post, "potentially opening up the possibility for him to return to the Hokies." More on this story as it develops. Stay glued to Gobbler Country. UPDATE: According to our own Josh Parcell, Journell also posted to Facebook "…sounds like ill be back playing ball with my boys in less than a week, man I love VT for all their support." So it looks like he's coming back.
Per pretty much everyone on Twitter and confirmed by Frank Beamer, reserve backer Telvion Clark has been dismissed from the football team because of a violation of team rules (translation: Clark was arrested March 18 for Public Intoxication/Swearing). There might have been more there than just that arrest, as the charges were not that severe. Clark was at one point the favorite to win the backer position prior to last season.
