Congrats to Brian on the birth of his daughter, Mattison Ryan. At least that's what I assume they named her. Crazy Eagles. If she has her mother's genes she'll be kicking my ass in cornhole in 12-14 years. For her sake I hope she at least looks like mom. Congrats!
Of all the weeks for me to miss out on a road trip to Blacksburg. The one and only Spencer Hall will be there in town to take in the Commonwealth Cup as well as host a Q&A with Antonio Freeman at TOTS. Head over the EDSBS for the full schedule of debauchery.
"Williams, who has battled a slightly torn hamstring for much of the season, finally returned to his form of last year as the Hokies wrapped up the Coastal Division with a win at Miami. Williams rushed for 142 yards and two touchdowns in the win and had a 7-yard catch. He scored the go-ahead touchdown on an 84-yard run early in the fourth quarter - the fifth-longest run in school history." Congrats to Williams, who takes home the eighth POW honor by a Hokie this year and the first for an offensive back.
Thought so. SB Nation is giving away a free Samsung 46-inch 3D 1080p HD TV. Go to the link above, answer the question "What's the best sports moment you ever watched on television?" in the comments, like SBN on Facebook and follow them on Twitter and just like that you're entered to win. It would be pretty cool if a Gobbler Country reader took home the prize, so good luck to you all!
Among the Top 25 teams in the BCS standings, the Hokies are tied for second in the latest graduation rate, which includes players who entered college in 2003. (HT: Norm Wood)
Darryl Slater of the Richmond Times-Dispatch reports injured defensive tackle Kwamaine Battle will qualify for a medical hardship. Battle, a junior, tore his ACL early in the Hokies' second game of the season against James Madison and will miss the remainder of the 2010 season.
According to Norm Wood of the Newport News Daily Press, Virginia Tech left tackle Nick Becton has returned to practice in a limited role. Becton, who suffered turf toe two weeks ago, has yet to return to full reps or sprints, but is at least out moving around on his injured foot. The coaches are hopeful he'll be able to fully participate later this week. More good news: Cornerback Jayron Hosley and linebacker Alonzo Tweedy also participated today.
I am absolutely flattered to be a part of AOL FanHouse's Twitter 200 (part two here) for college football. John Walters must be a big fan of inanity. Thanks to FanHouse for finding me interesting and congratulations to everyone else on the list, including guys like Brian from BC Interruption, Patrick from D1scourse, Michael from In the Bleachers and Brandon from ACC Blogger. Also, even though he isn't on the list, please follow @ACCSports so we don't have to have him committed.
We're tied with Oregon and Boise State. Steele has nine factors he uses to compute this ranking.
Virginia Tech quarterback Tyrod Taylor is one of 30 players named to the watch list for the 2010 Davey O'Brien Quarterback Award. He's one of five ACC quarterbacks on the list along with Jacory Harris, Josh Nesbitt, Christian Ponder and Russell Wilson.
