"This may sound nuts, but T.J. Millweard (Fort Worth, Texas/All Saints Episcopal) is very, very similar to former Missouri QB and first-round NFL draft pick Blaine Gabbert. He has size, is a deceptive athlete who can run and has the arm to make all the throws with a powerful over-the-top release. Frank Beamer got a steal with this Virginia Tech commit."

BDN: Are there any schools that you feel like you’ve developed a good relationship with at this point in the process? Kirven: Yeah, the two Virginia schools have. Duke – their whole academic thing down there is really good. I went down there yesterday, and that was really good, it was a good visit and stuff. I haven’t really visited any other schools that actually have stood out yet but everybody is about equal right now, so I don’t really have any favorites right now.

Blue Devil Nation talks to Korren Kirven, a Class of 2012 defensive tackle from Brookville High School in Lynchburg.

While it's premature to say the tide has turned in the battle for in-state football recruits, early returns indicate that new University of Virginia coach Mike London is making good on his promise to refocus efforts closer to home. The Cavaliers received two verbal commitments from area recruits in the past week, bringing their Class of 2011 haul to 13 prospects - six from the state, five from Hampton Roads.

Kyle Tucker of the Virginian-Pilot looks at how UVa's recruiting is coming along this summer. What KT doesn't mention is that the Hokies are only going to sign about 10 players this February because they don't have many scholarships to give away. If UVa was every going to get any momentum in in-state recruiting, it was going to be this year. It has a new coach, a new attitude and the Hokies aren't going to have room for many guys. Of course, we'll see if that momentum continues after this year's meeting in the 'Burg.
