David Teel reports the Hokies have hired former Maryland assistant Rob Ehsan as an assistant coach.
A little basketball recruiting. Four-star small forward Dorian Finney-Smith has set official visits for Virginia Tech, Old Dominion and Florida. He'll be in Blacksburg on Sept. 11. Ben Broman from Testudo Times thinks he's got VT at the top of his list with Florida right behind them.
Seth Greenberg has hired former ODU assistant John Richardson as an assistant coach, giving him a full staff. Greenberg lost two assistants in the offseason to other schools and filled the positions with Richardson and by promoting director of basketball operations Adrian Autry. Former Boston U. head coach Dennis Wolff has been hired as the Hokies' new director of basketball ops.
The Roanoke Times' Doug Doughty reports Seth Greenberg is close to hiring Old Dominion assistant coach John Richardson as an assistant coach and former Boston U. head coach Dennis Wolff as the director of basketball operations. Greenberg lost assistants Ryan Odom and Bill Courtney this offseason and filled one of those vacancies by promoting Adrian Autry from basketball ops to assistant.
Niemo of Tech Hoops breaks down Virginia Tech's upcoming games with Kansas State. Tech will travel to KSU this season to start the series. The Wildcats went to the Elite Eight last year and will likely be a preseason Top 10 team. The NCAA sent a message when it left Virginia Tech out of last year's NCAA Tournament. Seth Greenberg appears to have received that message, loud and clear.
I don't hate this. A 98-team tournament would have made it hard for me to care about college basketball anymore. And as numerous people have already said on Twitter, it's just enough teams so Virginia Tech could still be the last team out again and again and again. (Via @SeanBielawski)
Seth Greenberg's longest-tenured assistant coach, Ryan Odom, has accepted an assistant coaching position at Charlotte. Charlotte's new head coach is Alan Major, who replaced the fired Bobby Lutz.
Coach Greenberg is "100 percent in favor" of expanding the NCAA Tournament to a preposterous 96 teams. Let's just give all 347 teams a trophy and have an ice cream social instead of a basketball tournament. Everyone's invited. NBC would probably pay big bucks to televise that shit on tape delay.
