Virginia Tech Baseball Season Starts Next Week: Time for the Season and Roster Reviews
There are a good number of old faces from 2022, and a bunch of new folks. Hokie baseball’s 2023 season starts just after Presidents’ Day and goes past the end of the semester. We’re on it. So it’s roster and schedule time. GO HOKIES!!!
2022 MLB draft: Former Virginia Tech star Gavin Cross goes No. 9 overall to the Kansas City Royals
Cross is the highest draft pick in Virginia Tech history.
Virginia Tech baseball: Hokies OF Gavin Cross one of the MLB draft’s top prospects
Cross could go in the top 10 of the MLB draft.
Virginia Tech Hokies Baseball Season Ends but Something New Brews
Well, the hopes were high, and the momentum looked like it had swung in the Hokies’ direction, but the great sine curve of baseball caught them, and Tech’s magic 2022 baseball season ended as the offense and pitching could find no real traction. No laments, here. It was an amazing year for Hokie Baseball! It looks like more to come, too. GO HOKIES!!!!
Virginia Tech Hokies Defeat the Oklahoma Sooners to Force an All or Nothing Game 3
At the close of the game on Friday, there was a glimmer of hope. Late in the game the Hokies began to find their offensive confidence and the place that they stashed their hammers. This was a must win game. And the Hammerin’ Hokies made it known why they have that nickname. GO HOKIES!!!
Virginia Tech Hokies Drop the First Game of the Super Regionals to the Sooners: 5-4
It wasn’t a great way to start the big series against Oklahoma. The starting pitcher pulled, and the hammers were lost somewhere in the clubhouse. The Hokies nearly pull it out, but trail the series 0-1 with two must win games ahead. GO HOKIES!!!
Virginia Tech baseball: The schedule for Super Regional is here
The Hokies take on Oklahoma for a chance to go to the College World Series.
Virginia Tech Hokies Win the Their NCAA Regional Tournament to Advance to the Supers
As predicted, it wasn’t a total runaway like Saturday’s contest. Columbia was playing their second game of the day and had a few hidden resources that kept the Hammerin’ down to a minimum, but there were just enough. The Hokies still put up 7 and put away the Lions. GO HOKIES!!!
Virginia Tech Hokies Defeat the Columbia Lions to Advance to the Regional Championship Game
If you didn’t see it you wouldn’t believe it. I don’t even think that Coach Szefc quite believes it. The Hokies, trailing 2-1 in the top of the 4th do something nearly unthinkable in baseball to bury the Lions and pave the way for this evening’s regional NCAA Baseball Championship game. GO HOKIES!!!!
Virginia Tech Hokies Defeat Wright State Raiders to Advance One Bracket Level
The Blacksburg Regional NCAA Baseball Tournament got a rip-roaring start for the Hokies, but neither team was pitching well, so the Hokie Hammers were more like a mix of tools from the box. Hokies did a bit of everything and won a very "Up" game - 15-9. Next up Columbia. Go Hokies!!!
Virginia Tech Hokies are the #4 Seed Nationally, and the Opponents are Set
The Hokies made an impression in 2022. They are the #4 seed in the Regionals and hosting those games in Blacksburg. It’s going to be an interesting competition. GO HOKIES!!!
Virginia Tech Chosen to Host NCAA Regional Baseball Playoffs
Well it’s a good thing that Whit got the place spruced up a bit because the NCAA is showing up to play ball in Blacksburg, again. The local merchants are going to be happy, and the baseball team gets to play at home. GO HOKIES!!!!
Virginia Tech Hokies Baseball Crashes Out of the ACC Tournament
You had to know that this was coming. It just unfortunately came during a single elimination situation and after a sky high and probably over exuberant win the night before. Virginia Tech gets shut out everywhere by North Carolina and drops the game by a disappointing 10-0 score. Next up rest and the NCAA Tournament. GO HOKIES!!!!
#2 Virginia Tech Hokies defeat the Clemson Tigers in the First Game of Pool Play: 18-6
The #2 Virginia Tech could have rolled into Charlotte with a set of the choking nerves. It was this team’s first really clutch game in a while, and Coach Szefc’s first ACC Playoff game with the team seeded so high and predicted to win. 12th seeded Clemson is a good team. It just couldn’t endure the Hokie Hammers. No nerves and an emphatic ‘W’ for Tech! GO HOKIES!!!
Virginia Tech baseball: Several Hokies earn All-ACC honors
John Szefc is ACC coach of the year and four Hokies earn All-ACC first-team honors.
#5 Virginia Tech Hokies Take the Series with the #7 Louisville Cardinals: 2 Games to 1
It didn’t start off well, and the weather wasn’t helping much, either. Hokies drop the first game and come back to win the Saturday and Sunday contests. Not much offense and lots of clutch run manufacturing to win the final 2. GO HOKIES!!!
Virginia Tech Hokies Walk Off Again! This Time It’s Liberty for the Sweep
The Flames are a really good team, and this wasn’t going to be a midweek practice session. Liberty has 30 wins and wanted to add to that total at our expense. That almost happened with 1 out left in the game. NOPE! GO HOKIES!!!
Virginia Tech Hokies Sweep the Wildcats of Villanova- But It Wasn’t Easy
The Wildcats came south from Philly to meet up with the Hokies on the turf at English Field for a non-conference late season weekend set. Was it three or two games? Well, the weather sort of dictated a change if there were three. ‘Nova came to play baseball - especially in Game 2. But the Hokies Win!
#7 Virginia Tech Hokies Baseball Takes the Series with the #11 Wahoos 2 - 1
Not only did the Hokies manage to win the series in Hooville for the first time that anyone knows about, but it also clinched the Commonwealth Clash for the first time since 2018. No game was a dominant
Virginia Tech Hokies Sweep Boston College in Boston with Three Hard Fought Games
So, every team goes on the road hoping to win a split decision in a series - especially a conference series. The Hokies traveled well on this trip and defeat the Eagles for all three games. It wasn’t easy, though. GO HOKIES!!!
Virginia Tech Hokies Take Two in Mid-Week Matchups Against VMI and Radford
The 8th ranked Hokies had an unusual two-game mid-week local hammer fest with VMI and then a trip down the road to Radford. Both games needed some heavy stick work but both games were wins. GO HOKIES!!!
Virginia Tech Hokies Take Down #2 Miami 2 games to 1 for a Critical ACC Series Win
The Hokie Baseball Team is rolling up some serious numbers, Miami just couldn’t roll with them for most of the games of the series. The Hokies take it 2-1 and came very close to a sweep. The wins catapulted the Virginia Tech to a #8 ranking. GO HOKIES!!!
Virginia Tech Hokie Baseball Has a 3-1 Weekend with a Series Win over #18 UNC
This might have been a tough road trip with a rescue Tuesday game. It ended up being something special for the Hokies; a road series win in Chapel Hill and then a solid home game against Marshall. Every baseball fan will take that every weekend. GO HOKIES!!!
Virginia Tech Hokies Take Two on an Abbreviated Weekend Schedule: #12 Notre Dame goes down - VMI follows
Look this was going to be a really difficult trip to the Great Lakes and the home of the #12 Golden Domers. Mother Nature won the series, but Tech took the first game in a complete surprise. Then went to Lexington to play some ball at VMI. 2-0 is a good thing. GO HOKIES!!!!
Virginia Tech Hokies Grab an ACC Series Win Over Pitt, and then Radford to Snap the Slump
The Hokies take the series against Pitt, and then beat Radford for a 3-1 weekend/mid-week combination. It is a much needed little 3-win streak going since its going to be a long road trip against some really good opponents in Notre Dame and UNC... This was important, the skid had become a slump. GO HOKIES!!!
Virginia Tech baseball: Legendary Cal Ripken speaks to Hokies baseball team
Cal Ripken is a member of the Baseball Hall of Fame.
Hokie Baseball has a Really Bad Road Trip Losing 4 out of 4
It was going to be a tough series against ranked Georgia Tech. Then weather, and some bull pen issues left the Hokies leaving very late on Sunday with nothing. The trip to JMU resulted in more of the same. It’s baseball, folks... GO HOKIES!!!
Virginia Tech Hokies Defeat the East Carolina Pirates: 7-2
The Pirates finally got back to town for a Tuesday mid-week one off game. Look what happened! A baseball game broke out, with a real baseball score and lots of working for runs. Hokies head out for Atlanta with a 10-1 record. Good Start! GO HOKIES!!!
Virginia Tech Hokies Drop First Game, but Win the Series with Wright State; 5-11, 9-3, 17-1
The Hokies nab a series win against the visiting Wright State University Raiders, but not before dropping the opener. They came roaring back for the final two contests, though. Sunday was a Hokie Home Run Derby. ECU comes on Tuesday, then on the road to Atlanta to open the ACC season against the Jackets.
Virginia Tech Hokies Rally to Win the Tuesday Game with High Point: 10-4
The High Point Panthers usually play a few games against the Hokies. It’s a short trip for a Tuesday. For a lower division team, they are usually a challenge, and they came to play - but the Hokies played better.
Virginia Tech Hokies Earn Their Second Sweep Beating Fordham: 12-0, 8-2, and 7-3
Wow what a rocket hot start to the Hokies’ baseball season. In six complete games they’ve managed to win by no fewer than four runs. Baseball always returns to average, but this is just a wonderful start. GO HOKIES!!!
