Last week's ballot |
Dropped Out: California (#18), Georgia (#21), Missouri (#24), Michigan (#25).
- Oh boy, does this thing need a lot of help. I guess we'll start at the top where I've shuffled the Top 3. Alabama has looked impressive in every game it's played this year and moves to No. 1. Texas and Florida, who were both idle, move down.
- I still have Texas in front of Florida because it's schedule has been tougher and it's looked more impressive in its wins. While you may look down on Texas for playing Wyoming, I give it credit for it. That road trip to Wyoming is 10x farther than Florida has traveled for an OOC game in decades.
- How should I treat Oklahoma? It's lost both games against the two decent opponents on its schedule, but its done so by one point, away from home and will a ton of key injuries. Should I wait to really drop the Sooners until after they lose to Texas? Or should they fall all the way down in the 15-25 range already?
- The rest of the trouble comes at the bottom of the ballot, where South Florida, Auburn, Wisconsin and Oregon have moved into the poll. However, Stanford, South Carolina, Missouri and Boston College are missing. How should I treat these teams?
- I like South Florida and Auburn's resumes because they are both undefeated and include tough road wins. Wisconsin is also unbeaten, but most of its games have been close and its only road win is over Minnesota. Missouri is unbeaten and its wins over Illinois and at Nevada look less and less impressive each week.
- Balloting is getting tougher not because there are a lot of good teams, but because there are a lot of mediocre teams who you can honestly just put into a hat and pull out the same quality team every time.
- There are three great teams this year, about five or six that could be great and then after that they're all the same.
