Virginia Tech's Side of the Bracket
Cal-State Northridge Matadors (1-2)
Conference: Big West
Head Coach: Bobby Braswell
Notes: The Matadors are 0-2 against Division 1 opponents with losses to California and UCLA ... their win came against Vanguard of the NAIA ... they are led in scoring by senior guard/forward Rashaun McLemore, who led them in points against Cal and UCLA ... he is the team's top outside shooting threat and also contributes 4.0 rebounds per game ... Lenny Daniel currently leads the Matadors with 5.7 rebounds per game, however nine of his 17 rebounds this season came against Vanguard ... Northridge was out-rebounded by 17 against Cal, but held its own against UCLA and was out-rebounded by one ... the Matadors are much deeper than the Hokies and will cycle guys in and out ... 10 players saw double-digit minutes against both Cal and UCLA.
DePaul Blue Demons (1-1)
Conference: Big East
Head Coach: Oliver Purnell
Notes: The Blue Demons have a win over Chicago State and a loss to Western Carolina on their record coming into Anaheim ... in their most recent game, a loss to WCU, they shot 39.6 percent and were out-rebounded 48-34 ... the Blue Demons aren't very good behind the arc and are 7-for-35 this season ... they have five players who have averaged double figures through two games, but none that average more than 13.5 ppg ... Jimmy Drew, who has come off the bench on both games this year, leads DePaul in rebounds with 12.
Oklahoma State Cowboys (3-0)
Conference: Big 12
Head Coach: Travis Ford
Notes: Oklahoma State has beaten Houston Baptist, TAMU-Corpus Christi and Nicholls State so far this season ... the Cowboys are led in scoring by center Marshall Moses, who averages 16.7 points and 7.3 rebounds per game ... forward Darrell Williams leads them with 11.7 rebounds per game ... the Cowboys have a dangerous three-point threat in guard Keiton Page, who has been cold from behind the arc this year at 3-for-12 ... the Cowboys out-rebounded their first three opponents by an average of 11 per game ... Kentucky transfer Matt Pilgrim is another threat down low for the Cowboys, but has been in Ford's dog house after a volatile offseason ... he was 10th in the Big 12 in rebounding last year and led the team in field goal percentage ... however, he's come off the bench in the team's first three games, averaging just under 15 minutes per game.
