After entering the rankings last week, the Hokies have continued their surge in the rankings, jumping from No. 24 last week to No. 19 in this week's AP Poll.
Virginia Tech rose, in part due to six AP top-25 teams that lost games this weekend. They also impressed voters with their dominating performance against the Pittsburgh Panthers, tallying 8 sacks in a 19-9 win in Blacksburg Saturday. The ACC placed three teams in the top-10, a rarity, and something that hasn't happened since 2005 according to this David Teel tweet:
Last time 3 ACC in top 10 was several weeks in 2005 w/Miami, VT, FSU. Only #Hokies finished there, at No. 7.

Tech is idle for the first time this season this week, but will have the opportunity to continue to move up if other ranked teams ahead of them losing games. They will resume their season in a repeat home game against Duke on October 26.
