Virginia Tech Falls Out Of Both AP And USA Today Coaches' Polls After Loss To Duke

Peter Casey-USA TODAY Sports

After climbing to No. 16 and No. 19 in the AP and USA Today Coaches' Polls respectively last week, each ranking a high-water mark on the season, Virginia Tech dropped out of both polls this week in the wake of their loss to unranked Duke. They did, however, receive votes in both polls.

The Hokies had been ranked for three weeks, reappearing in the polls for the first time in 19 weeks after a 27-17 win against North Carolina on October 5th. They had also gained their highest ranking in the BCS Standings, ranking No. 14 when the standings were released for the first time this season last week. Currently, SB Nation does not project that the Hokies will be included in the Week 10 BCS Standings.

It will be perhaps a long road back to being ranked again for the Hokies, and with former opponents suffering costly losses in the last few weeks, the Hokies strength of schedule has taken a hit. But as is always the case, what happens on the field is what matters, and if Tech should recover and post a strong showing to finish the season, they will be ranked again.
