Virginia Tech Ranked For The First Time In Over A Year

Outside of the commitment of 4-star stud defensive tackle Ricky Walker earlier this morning, the Hokies received more good news today when they re-entered both the USA Today Coaches' and AP Polls at No. 25 and 24 respectively after their 27-17 home win over North Carolina yesterday. They just made it in by the skin of their teeth in the Coaches' Poll, receiving 97 votes to the Missouri Tigers' 86.

Missouri got 86 votes in the coaches' poll. No. 25 Virginia Tech got 97.

They did, however, fare better in the AP Poll, jumping up to No. 24, 10 votes ahead of Missouri and with a comfortable 54 votes better than the top unranked team Auburn. Virginia Tech had not been ranked since the loss to 0-2 Pittsburgh in Week 3 of the 2012 season. That loss dropped them from No. 13 to completely out of both polls. That drought of 19 weeks unranked was officially the longest in the BCS era for the Hokies:

Tech will try to hold that ranking and even improve upon it with a win next week over the same Pittsburgh Panthers that started the unranked streak for the Hokies last year.
