Hokies Receive Four-Star 2015 Football Commit

Virginia Tech picked up a big defensive end commitment for the 2015 class.

Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

Virginia Tech picked up its second commitment for the 2015 recruiting class when four-star defensive end Michael Barnett committed to the Hokies earlier today.

Barnett, 6'4 and 248 pounds, comes in as a consensus four-star talent, and is a Top-247 player on 247sports.com.

If that doesn't sound convincing enough, here are the other schools that were competing for his services:

  • Clemson
  • Florida
  • Florida State
  • Tennessee
  • Georgia Tech
  • NC State
  • South Carolina (monitoring with no offer)
  • North Carolina (monitoring with no offer)

That's a pretty solid offer list if you ask me. Barnett hails from Dorchester, SC, so plucking a top-five South Carolina kid out from under Clemson has to feel great for the Virginia Tech staff. In case you were curious, his lead recruiters were Charley Wiles and Aaron Moorehead (the new wide receivers coach).

Barnett is coming off an unofficial visit to Virginia Tech on November 16, which was the Maryland game. Despite the outcome, Barnett apparently loved his visit and loved the atmosphere that Virginia Tech had to offer. The kid is all about the Hokies, and seems like a very solid commitment.

Welcome aboard, Michael!
