It was announced today that Virginia Tech redshirt-senior kicker Cody Journell was named the ACC Specialist of the Week for Week 10, after booting home two field goals from 47 and 56 yards in the Hokies' loss 34-27 to Boston College in Chestnut Hill Saturday.

Journell, and Virginia Tech's kickers as a whole, have had an up-and-down season, missing more kicks than the entire ACC combined coming into last week. But that didn't stop Journell from stepping up to hit a 56-yarder right before half, his first successful kick of over 50 yards, surpassing his previous career-long of 48 yards. The kick was also the longest successful kick under Frank Beamer. It also is the longest kick in the ACC this year and tied three others for the longest kick in the nation this season.
Even with his performance Saturday, Journell is still only connecting on 62.5 percent of his kicks (10-16) and has missed two extra points (18-20), much lower than his 80-plus percent field goal and 95-plus percent extra point career marks.
