8/22 Hokies Men's Soccer Brief

Virginia Tech announced two players have made preseason All-ACC according to CollegeSportsMadness.com. They are senior forward David Clemens and goalkeeper Kyle Renfro.

Upon reading this, I went to the Hokiesports.com soccer website and read through. One interesting tidbit did come up:

CollegeSportsMadness.com, a site dedicated to covering college athletics, named Clemens and Renfro to the second team after a 2012 season that saw the pair lead the Hokies to their best season since 2007.

Upon further reading at CollegeSportsMadness.com, I found a page where they tabled first and second preseason All-ACC teams, and it was there I found both Clemens and Renfro on the 2nd All-ACC team. It is a honor to be listed as an All-ACC team, regardless whether it is the first or second team.

As a former goalkeeper, I have high hopes for Renfro in 2013, who apparently led the ACC in total saves and saves per game according to Hokiesports. If Renfro can continue to build on his junior season and go out with a bang, he could someday be drafted by a club from Major League Soccer, just like former Hokie Patrick Nyarko in 2008 with the 7th overall pick, the highest a Hokie has ever been drafted.

One last tidbit, I have learned that the exhibition game against Radford University has been postponed to Saturday August 24 at 6 pm. It will be played at Radford University.
