Virginia Tech picked up a solid 73-63 victory over the Liberty Flames Wednesday night in Cassell Coliseum. Joey Van Zegeren paced the Hokies with a double-double (17-10) and led all scorers.
Early on, the freshmen continue to shine for this Virginia Tech squad as Justin Bibbs scored 10 points followed by Mueller with 9 and Hudson with 7. However, in this game the veterans really helped contribute to a hard fought team win; Devin Wilson and Adam Smith both finished with 13 points. Overall the Hokies shot the ball well hitting 61% from the floor, but struggled again from line only hitting 16-28, which kept Liberty in this game.
Moving forward Virginia Tech will look to make more free throws and limit their turnover as they had 21 on the evening. As non-conference play continues Buzz will continue to figure out which style best suits this squad as many ACC teams will be just as athletic and probably bigger. Buzz, after the game, emphasized that he wanted VT to take more shots and get into the offense earlier in the shot-clock because the Hokies have skilled shooters that can knock down shots.
Twitter Reactions:
#Hokies run the fastbreak to perfection there, with Wilson getting it from Jalen Hudson, then giving it back and Hudson hammering home dunk.
