Virginia Tech Backup Quarterback Mark Leal Leaves Team

Backup quarterback Mark Leal met with Frank Beamer Tuesday and decided to leave the football team to pursue a professional opportunity.

The senior has already graduated with a degree in sociology. On the season, he saw time in just three games completing 6-of-9 passes for 77 yards and a touchdown. His most significant playing time came in last season's Sun Bowl when he came in for an injured Logan Thomas to complete 12-of-25 passes for 125 yards and two interceptions in the Tech loss.

Redshirt sophomore Brendon Motley becomes the backup to Michael Brewer. The Christiansburg, Va. native was listed as the No. 1 quarterback in the spring, but Brewer's arrival and a back injury in fall camp took Motley out of the running for the QB job.
