Virginia Tech Basketball Recruiting Roundup: After Hill And Paige Who's Still Out There?

With Ahmed Hill and Satchel Pierce aboard, we take a look at the remaining possibilities for the spring contact period.

Dave Weaver-USA TODAY Sports

With former Marquette signees Ahmed Hill and Satchel Pierce now members of Hokie Nation, Tech has four players signed in this recruiting class. If Buzz Williams wants to add more players there will have to be some attrition amongst the current roster, but coaches always find a way to make the numbers work.

Let's take a look at some of the remaining prospects on Buzz's radar.

Jeff Garrett 6'7", 210 SF

The Hokies offered Garrett a scholarship on March 25, just four days after Williams was named head coach at Virginia Tech. The Hokies probably got involved too late here and Garrett's top five schools don't include Tech.

Richard Lee 6'2", 190 SG

The Fort Lauderdale product is considered one of the top players in Florida. He has scholarship offers from Miami and Florida in addition to the Hokies, but given Tech's sudden logjam at shooting guard it seems more likely Lee will remain in his home state.

Willie Atwood 6'8", 215 PF

Atwood was one of the first players to receive an offer from Tech after Williams' hiring. He's since taken official visits to Iowa, Florida State and this weekend to Arizona State. The Hokies no longer appear to be in the running for the JUCO forward.

Shane Henry 6'8", 215 PF

Henry has been quiet since it was reported that he would announce his choice "soon" between Tech and Arkansas. The JUCO shot-blocker extraordinaire is still very much in play and the Hokies would really like to add another big body to a thin frontcourt.

Malek Harris 6'7", 190 SF

Harris is another member of the Marquette recruiting class looking elsewhere in the wake of the coaching change. He took an official visit to Kansas State this weekend and is scheduled to visit Blacksburg the weekend of Tech's spring football game. He also has an offer from Gonzaga but no visit has been scheduled at this point.

JaKeenan Gant 6'7", 195 PF

Gant is the No. 1 player in the state of Georgia and a current signee at Missouri. That situation is clearly in a state of flux with head coach Frank Haith leaving to become the head man at Tulsa. Gant is good friends with Ahmed Hill. Both played on the same AAU team (Southern Stampede) and Hill was considering going to Missouri to join Gant until the coaching carousel fired up. This may be a long shot for the Hokies however as rumors are swirling that once granted his release, Gant might head to Indiana.

Kareem Canty 6'1", 185 PG

Canty played his freshman season at Marshall and was granted a release from his scholarship once Thundering Herd head coach Tom Herrion was fired. He averaged 16.5 PPG and 5.5 Assists and is easily one of the best transfer players available this spring. Canty is visiting Auburn this weekend and has a number of other visits scheduled. Those supposedly include one to Virginia Tech.

There are a number of other players out there with Tech scholarship offers, but these are a handful of the most widely discussed names.

No doubt there will be more shuffling and surprises during the remainder of the spring signing period. If Tech doesn't add anyone else this would still be a tremendous recruiting class. 247 Sports already moved this Hokie haul 30 spots up to 29th in the country with the new signees and with another solid addition, this is easily a top 25 caliber group.
