Trey Edmunds will not play at running back in Saturday's season opener against William & Mary.
Beamer said Edmunds will get some work on kickoff coverage to get him back into the flow of things. J.C. Coleman will start at RB. #Hokies

Edmunds, a redshirt sophomore, was anticipated to be the returning starter at running back after leading the team in rushing last year with 675 yards and 10 touchdown runs. While he will still play on special teams, this is not the news that most Tech fans want to hear.
Veteran junior J.C. Coleman is capable of handling some of the load, however I would anticipate seeing true freshman Marshawn Williams receive a considerable amount of reps as a bruising complement to Coleman's electric speed. A collegiate debut of true freshman Shai McKenzie is also not out of the question on Saturday against the Tribe.
