Zohn Burden Interviewing For VT Wide Receiver Opening

ODU Wide Receiver Coach, Zohn Burden, was interviewed today and will continue interviewing tomorrow for the opening on the Hokies staff.

Current Old Dominion coach Zohn Burden has been named the front runner to replace Aaron Moorehead as the next WR coach at Virginia Tech.

Burden is a Salem High School and VMI Grad that has spent several years working up the coaching ranks and is currently the "Offensive Pass Game Coordinator" for ODU. This might not be a "big name" hire for many Hokie fans, but his philosophy and coaching/recruiting abilities are very intriguing as ODU finished in the top-10 in 3 national FBS offensive categories (points per game, total offense and passing offense) during their 2013 campaign.

On the recruiting trail coach Burden has had good success in the 757 area of VA as well as around the Atlanta area in Georgia, which is a hot bed for talent. His current 247sports profile shows that he has gained the commitment of 11 players for the 2015 class, five of which are 3* prospects making Zohn the 2nd best recruiter in CUSA. He might not be used to recruiting against SEC caliber schools, but his age, social presence and personality seem to hit it off with players and at VT he will have a tradition to sell to recruits, if hired.

I think this would be an outstanding hire for VT because he is familiar with many of the recruiting areas that VT needs to attain talent from and he also has shown that he can develop talent on the field. More than likely VT won't be throwing the ball around like ODU does, but the talent he brings in will know what to do with it when they catch the football, based off of how electric his WRs have been in the past.

Go Hokies!
