At least some of our recruits had good Saturdays...

Michael Brewer returned Saturday. Is Joshua Jackson actually the next big Tech QB?
Michael Brewer returned Saturday. Is Joshua Jackson actually the next big Tech QB?

Here's a look back on Virginia Tech's recruits and their performances this week of Friday, October 17th. Khalil Ladler's IMG Academy, Emmanuel Belmar's Collins Hill, and Patrick Kearns' Darlington School were all off this week. There were still some residual weather rescheduling, so on we go with the update...

Jovonn Quillen (Hampton, VA. 185lbs, 6'-2", Athlete)

Video at the Local Article.

BIG rivalry game in the 757 as Jovonn Quillen's Hampton Crabbers took down Phoebus on Saturday, 19-7. Quillen was responsible for all three touchdowns- two through the air and one on the ground. He went 5-9 with 112 yards passing. He also had 22 carries for 60 yards.

Victor Greene (Spotsylvania, VA. 215lbs, 6'-0", Outside Linebacker)

Victor Greene racked up an impressive yardage total of 129 yards on 15 carries as Courtland skunked Spotsylvania, 35-0. He also ran for a 2-pt. conversion in the game, but no touchdowns. Yes, I still think Greene is a halfback and not a linebacker.

Local Article

Reggie Floyd (Manassas, VA. 205lbs, 6'-0", Athlete)

Just over in my backyard, Stonewall Jackson played Patriot High School. No real statistics, but they're now 0-8 after the loss, 41-12.

Local Article

Eric Kumah (Woodbridge, VA. 205lbs, 6'-3", Wide Receiver)

Forest Park was defeated by Woodbridge High School, 18-15. Kumah was still impressive in the game; a 32-yard touchdown was one of his 5 receptions for 62 yards. The TD grab was a big leap on a lofted jump ball. Have to use that 6'-3" to your advantage.

Local Article

Joshua Jackson (Saline, MI. 200lbs, 6'-2", Dual-threat Quarterback)

Video at the Local Article.

Nobody can stop Jackson and Saline, as they mow over Ypsilanti to go 8-0 on the season with an impressive final score of 48-18. In the game Jackson was again very impressive, rushing for one touchdown and passing for three. Regular season football might be done, though, as the Canadian team they were supposed to be playing isn't coming down, and that leaves them potentially unbeaten for the season until the playoffs. He sure throws a pretty ball.

Local Article

Divine Deablo (Winston-Salem, NC. 180lbs, 6'-3", Wide Receiver)

Sorry, no video.

Deablo's Mount Tabor team lost to West Forsyth, 24-14. Deablo rushed for both touchdowns in the game, but that wasn't enough to win.

Local Article

Phillip Patterson (Virginia Beach, VA. 180lbs, 6'-2". Wide Receiver)

Sorry, no video.

Bayside beat Landstown, 26-14. Sorry, no further stats.

Local Article

Samuel Denmark (Charleston, SC. 175lbs, 6'-0", Wide Receiver)

Sorry, no video.

Hanahan vs. Orangeburg-Wilkinson was played on Monday- Denmark scored an 89-yard kickoff return for a TD in that one for a 14-13 squeaker win. They gained another win on Friday, beating Stall High 56-14. No stats for Stall, but

Local Article (Orangeburg-Wilkinson)

Local Highlights (Stall)

Jimmie Taylor (Jacksonville, NC. 220lbs, 6'-3". Defensive End)

Checking in on Southwest Onslow, which lost to North Brunswick, 12-0. No statistics again.

Local Article/Score

Troy Pride, Jr. (Greer, SC. 165lbs, 6'-0", Cornerback)

Greer beat Chapman 35-21 in a game that wasn't as close as the score indicated. Pride recorded two touchdown catches and an interception in the game. Greer is 8-0 on the year. Pride is, unfortunately, off to an official visit to Notre Dame this weekend.

Local Article

Thomas Jarrett Hopple (Suffolk, VA. 270lbs., 6'-6", Offensive Line)

Local Highlights

Nansemond River has played 3 games in 8 days, and is 4-3 after beating great Bridge, 39-0 for their homecoming.

(Note: there are conflicting reports as to whether the score was 45-0 or 39-0. Most substantiated score is 39-0 via this tweet:

).

What I can see of Hopple in this game continues my impression of him- he's a BIG guy facing much smaller players and simply shoving them around. It's fun to watch but you can't ever be sure as to how well that will translate.

Local Article

Tavante Beckett (Chesapeake, VA. 215lbs, 6'-0", Outside Linebacker)

Beckett's Indian River team played Deep Creek, who they beat down 35-0. He caught a touchdown in formation as a tight end, and had a couple of important tackles and a pass defense.

Max Preps Score

Clay Dean (Purcellville, VA. 255lbs, 6'-2", Defensive Tackle)

Sorry, no video.

Woodgrove beat Heritage on Friday, 49-7. They're now 6-1. No new news on Dean in particular, though...

Local Article

Myles Wolfolk (Upper Marlboro, MD. 185lbs, 5'-11", Cornerback)

Wise is still undefeated, as the Pumas beat up Eleanor Roosevelt, 41-6 on Saturday. Wolfolk had an interception that set up a touchdown, along with another defended pass

Tune in next week for more high school updates!
