Last weeks article was yet another one that ended in horrible fashion. My underdog selections just can't complete the upset.
I thought Illinois could hang with Ohio State with all of the distractions in Columbus, but Urban Meyer's team ended up playing fairly well. My guaranteed upsets of Washington over Arizona State and Minnesota over Iowa went 0-2. The Huskies blew a 17 point lead and the Golden Gophers could not stop the run against the Hawkeyes.
My only success in week 11 was predicting Arkansas to keep it close at LSU. The Razorbacks did more than just that. They won the game outright and embarrassed the Tigers at home.
I am still searching for odds on who will be the next coach in Blacksburg, but nothing has surfaced yet. For now, lets preview the Virginia Tech and North Carolina matchup and also who should be on upset alert.
Comment below or contact me on Twitter @RooksReport if there is a game you want me to preview or break down. Thanks again for always reading.
No.17 North Carolina -6.5 @ Virginia Tech: The Tar Heels are coming into this game on a nine game winning streak and really should be undefeated. If it wasn't for a late collapse against South Carolina, UNC might be in the top ten of the playoff rankings. Virginia Tech on the other hand, has failed to live up to the offseason hype, but they could still make it to a bowl game with a win this week or in week 13 against Virginia. This game is very tough for me to predict with all the emotions that will be in the air. Frank Beamer will run out of the tunnel for the last time at Lane Stadium. His players will want to send him out on a high note, but asking for a victory this week might be tough. College Game day decided earlier in the week that they won't be coming to Blacksburg and I think that actually helps Virginia Tech. When Game day is on campus it can add a lot of extra pressure. My heart says go with Beamer, but my head says no. I think Virginia Tech plays North Carolina tough for the first half and then the Tar Heels will pull away. I hope I am wrong, but I think UNC 35 VT 24.
Week 12 Guaranteed Upsets to Happen (4-12 YTD)
No upset alerts for me this week. I am going all in on guaranteed upsets to happen.
Illinois +4.5 @ Minnesota: These two teams were featured in my article last week and both failed me. This week I will only choose one of the Big Ten schools and that is Illinois. If you have read my previous post, I am a big fan of interim head coach Bill Cubit. I think he has done a great job this season. With a victory this week he will have the Fighting Illini bowl eligible. Minnesota has checked out for the year and has nothing left in the tank after last weeks performance at Iowa. Plus, the Big Ten needs Illinois to win so that they have more teams in the postseason. Illinois with the upset 42-37.
No.10 Baylor @ No.6 Oklahoma State -1: I don't understand this game at all. Oklahoma State should be favored by much more in their house. Baylor is coming to Stillwater with a freshman quarterback that is not at 100%. Jarrett Stidham will start, but how long can he hold up. The Cowboys defensive line is very good and will bring pressure all day. However, when a line makes absolutely zero sense to me, I throw out all the stats and just pick who I think will win. Ladies and gentleman that is Baylor. The Bears are going to beat the Cowboys and jump right back in to the playoff race.
